Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) mileage question

I recently checked my mileage and was very pleased. I did drive very conservatively at about 65mph. I got slightly under 22 mpg. Is this typical of what you other folks have seen? I will admit that I usually dont drive like this. When you have a vehicle that will move like this one ( my wife calls it the rocket) I have a problem keeping my foot out of it and I am usually pushing it a bit.



Also I heard a new cummins diesel running the other day and boy was that thing quiet. Are these new quiet diesels getting the mileage that our older 12 or 24 valve models are getting?

Yep, your normal for MPG. 24 mpg is very do-able. Thats what I can get if I hold at 60 mph. 65 mph nets 22. 6 mpg.



The newer ones get a little worse I think. They inject a small amount of fuel to get the fire going and then add the rest. Thats why they are quieter.

Did you own your truck when it was stock? If so, what mileage were you getting then? How much do you attribute the fuel economy you're seeing now to the mods?

Yes I did buy this truck new in Oct. 1998. I now have 78000 miles on it. When I first checked the mileage on a trip when the truck was fairly new with no mods I got 21 mpg. This is the first time I have checked the mileage since the mods and I was pleasently suprised.

Did you put in the Edge and injectors at the same time?

I put the ez in when the truck was about 1 year old. I added the dd2's about a year ago.

All the mods I have done to my truck, I have selectively chosen after allot of reading and study of the threads that have appeared here on TDR. I have centered all my efforts around reliability first, fuel mileage second, maneuvering power 3rd. So far I have not broken anything and after 150,000+ turns, still have my original clutch, original brakes, original VP, original turbo with no signs of anything dying yet.



Go slow in your study, choose wisely in your applications, enjoy the reliability of your decision and last but not least, EMBARRASS THE YOUNG PUPS WHEN YOU CAN. EXPERIENCE AND CUNNING WILL ALWAYS OVERCOME YOUTH AND EXUBERANCE
