DHaynes, which flash did they give you, I've got the same truck and my mileage sucks. It's about 10. 7 around town and not much better when highway driving.

Hey I notice you don't have any muffler on there.

I'm a big straight pipe fan and have had straight on all of mine till this one man cut it out and ran it for a few hundredmiles and was going deaf!!!

Man these 06 give loud a new meaning don't they??!!

The problem with mine was it really boomed in the cab up over 2000 rpm. I finnally put a straight thru muffler on it!!

Hows yours sound?? Like it?? Just wondering!!!

I don't care what any body says my 03 would run circles around this one on power and fuel!!! Wish I had it back!! :(

I had wanted a new truck for quite awhile. Then after my Dad passed away I bought his pride and joy from my Mom, a Stock, 96' 3/4 extracab LB, 2x4, 5 speed with 3:54's a canopy and 96,000 miles on it. It has been pulling down an average of 20 mpg... even when driving 1/2 town and 1/2 freeway. . 21+ on the freeway... with the price of fuel nowdays, while I still want a new one, I enjoy the ol' 12 valves economy. Plus, I enjoy knowing my Dad is riding shotgun!! Bob in Seattle

Anyone who has less than 30,000 on the clock and is whining about mileage shoulda bought a gas rig. You've not even got your engine broke in yet... .

True. I have 23,000 miles now and average 16-17 city/hwy combined. Prior to 10k it was like 13-15. Unloaded on the hwy with cruise set at 65 mph my best is 19. 3; hand calculated, lie-o-meter is pretty close. I use P/S Diesel Kleen and some 2 stroke oil to enhance fuel lubricity, don't know if this has any effect on my mileage. Maybe after 30k it will be real efficient like a Toyota Prius Hybrid. ... ... ... not

At 56,000 my milage is still increasing with each fluid change. AND It has surprisingly(NOT) worked that way with every diesel pickup I have owned. My 05 one year ago when new got 8. 7 hwy and 11. 2 in town. Just for reference, hwy is considered 75mph to bumpin the gov and in town is floorboarded stop light to stop light and All miles are loaded at 9000lbs+... ... NOW we get to today, same trailer truck and p/p driving habits and I get 20. 7 hwy and 19 in town. Whats the difference ? it darn sure ain't fuel quality... . It's miles, driving your truck how you want it to run. Not abuse but USE..... And for the record this is not two or three trucks worth of experiance, In the 20 years I have been driving I have never owned a gas truck :-laf

My previous post came acrossed poorly, did not realize that until reading it now, hence the explanation here... ... JMNHO :D

Jrissler without my muffler the truck isn't much louder it has more of a deeper tone, sounds good, but I'm still running with the converter.

Ok. Thats the difference then. I stripped the converter off too and man thats just too much!!! But with that lil muffler I put in then it sound pretty good now.

Just got back from a 2500 trip from NW Iowa to Taos to OKC back to Nw Iowa. Ran about 78 MPH in Nebraska and Denver and 70 plus in Okla and Tex. was not pulling anything. I averaged 17. 9 mpg. All figured by hand. The overhead always shows 19 to 20. I only have 4600 miles on it now after the trip so I am still breaking it in. I am pleased with everything about this truck!

2006 Mega Cab 2500 swb auto 4x4. I had a 99 and still have an 03 along with this new 06. The 06 runs quiet rides smooth and has plenty of power.

I took delivery of my Mega Cab on Wednesday of last week. Now, with 1013 miles, I am happy with economy numbers of around 16. 5. A recent trip through the mountains at around 75 gave me a number on the overhead of 18. 8. I don't believe it.

06 quad

came back from sc on mondayto ct, 20miles per gal. going 70-80 hard. empty. 17-19 on the way down. i can see getting 21  or 22 is possible if i went slower. i only have 3k on it so far. light towing 14-15 around town. i run 80 psi in the stock tires.

This is my first diesel... .

The 285's seem to "fix" the optimistic overhead (verified by hand calc)... . I average 15-17 mpg around town (stop @ go and a little hot rodding)... . and averages 18-19 on the highway @ 70-75 mph... . all stock with a Geno's ME (sounds good with cat/resonator still in place)... . with only 2500 miles on and have towed my snowmobile trailer (27' enclosed) only twice for a nice "load" on the motor... . the neighbors skid steer @ trailer at 10,000+ lbs is next on the "break-in" list... LOL

I started adding MMO for lubrication and have dropped the oil twice now (kinda anal about new oil in a new motor) and plan on dropping everything at 10K and going synthetic... maybe the elusive "20 mpg CTD" will show up then... LOL-BJ

Get some miles on it , you will not see much more intill it breaks 10K. Ichanged the air filter box and tube, also put a resonator in place of the converter (Quiet). I pull a loaded trailer most of the time and get 11. 5 to 14mpg depending on the load. Inever run over 70. Last trip thru kansas with a 29' fifth wheel and a 21' Stratos Bass boat on the rear we averaged 10. 2 , speed 68 -70 most of the time (06 6 speed 3:73 gears). Empty trip to michigan Xtra fuel tank only 18. 4 mpg 70 on highway. Also try Amsoil 15-40 in the engine and change both diffs out with Amsoil severe gear, and Amsoil the trans and transfer case. (Neutral gear rattle will leave also. )

Sounds like mine. 06 MC dually 6spd 3. 73s. Less than 2000 miles and only a little below half full on my 3rd full tank. The first 2 indicated about 17 on the overhead. Hand calc was 15. 5 or so with 50% highway. It will nudge 18 on the overhead at times on the highway right after a fill-up. Haven't pulled a load yet and I don't hot rod it much. Maybe I should. "... but officer; I was just breaking it in... " ;)

Hahaha... I wonder if that excuse works?

I have been pretty gentle too. I figure it will only get better from here...

for reference,

My 04. 5 dually quadcab 2wd was averaging 16 mpg brand new. At 40K miles, it would average 17. 6 mpg. When I added the TST Powermax and dual 4" exhaust at 40K, the mileage increased to 18. 5 mpg average. At 52K miles (when I traded it in), it would average 18. 7 mpg.

I usually drive 75-80 mph on the highways.

My new '06 4x4 quadcab SRW is averaging about 16. 5 mpg with 1K miles on it. The 33" tires I put on the truck dropped the mpg average about 1 mpg it seems (was 17. 4 mpg when stock). But, I'm also not correcting for the speedo change due to taller tires either.
