What did you think?

Who's Been in the Military?.

In the movies they are always saying - "we have to get to the LZ two clicks up the river. " How far is a 'click' and what does it really mean?

thanks,

jason

While were on the subject...

Ever notice that the guys in the military act super professional when taking to the media. Their always dead serious, speak professionally and never joke around and never smile. Same goes whether they're a private or a Colonel. You never see anybody playing around either.

The military must have one hell of a training system. :)

the PA (public affairs) folks are always that way on camera. It's the way the military wants to be represented, and should be represented for that matter.

In the movie "Full Metal Jacket", R. Lee Emery, the guy that now does "Mail Call" on the History Channel, was the D. I. in that movie, the one Private Pyle shot.

Anyway, while he is marching the troops he is singing a cadence and I could never tell what he was saying, anyone know?

Nick

well which time? They march several times in the movie. I could tell ya I have the movie at home. Most of it is some for of Left, Right with extreme garble involved. It's hard to understand but if you can get what he wants to say and put words in his mouth it makes sense hehe :)

Well I would have to watch it again. Can't remember now, lol. Thanks though.

USually the cadence is something like "When my Grandma was 90 (something)"

Give me some-- P-T; good for you... good for me. oo-rah, etc etc. .

It's always funny how we military folks tend to be all serious when the public eye's on, and then be like MASH when no one's looking.

1Lt Justin Hohn:)

It was something like, "Hut (or up) now three, three ___ up, one, two ___ up" ??????

Navy Aircrew Cadence: "Look to the left and what do you see... an Air Force weenie looking at me. I don't know but it's be said... Air Force wings are made of lead". As we would do our P. T. runs the Air Force guys would just kind of snubb their noses at us. It is true that Navy wings are gold and Air Force wings have this dull silver silver look to them like lead. That cadence also often resulted into some good bar fights:D.

I saw something by Jeff Cooper saying how the military terminology differs between the branches.

It went something like this:

Ask a member of our military to "secure this".

Navy, turn off the lights and shut the door.

Army, Shut and lock all access, post a guard and prohibit entrance without proper clearance.

Airforce, Rent with option to buy.

Marines, assault with heavy fire, fortify and call in an air strike.

This is not exactly what was said, buy it's a paraphrase from what I remember.

I thought it was pretty funny.
