What exactly makes all the noise in a diesel motor?

That's great. Everyone should drive a diesel. I will never put 1 million miles on one. By the time I got half way there I would be too old to drive. :(

Very, VERY sketchy details!

That was always the trouble with the Ford guys, they consider an overhaul as:

"Never gave me a lick of trouble. "

The odometer prolly was haywire, and added miles 10 times faster than what was really gettting put on.

On the front page of the DaimlerChrysler Times 95 Extended cab diesel at 999,900... The guy pulls campers for a living he says he has gone through 66,500 gallons of fuel, and 230 gallons of oil... thats alotta rotella T... . says he only changes his oil and filters every 9000 miles... original parts left were the engine, drive axel, bearings, seals, gears, tie rods and injectors... . hmm wonder how many transmissions? His mechanic predicts another quarter -million miles. His secret ... he runs the exact speed limit and having a light foot... . obviosly can't be a member of the TDR with the light foot... and stock injectors:D

Ive seen grocery getters with 40k on them with trashed engines. Grandma drives it 2 miles to the store and 4 miles to church. The car is never driven with a warm motor. So every mile on the car is very high engine wear miles. Now put that same car on the highway and its good to 2 or 300k. Its all how its driven.

Us dodge boys should throw a party for the ford camp.

Our little bitty Cummins found in

Dodge,Ford,Various tractors,etc.

The over cyclindered power stroke found in

Just Ford.

"... a practice that has also contributed to the extraordinary lifespan of his Power Stroke Diesel. "

Yeah, extraordinary for a PSD! Not for a Cummins.

By the way, have you ever seen a graph of engine wear vs. temp? Wear goes up EXPONENTIALLY the farther below temp that the engine runs. If he was driving a lot and keeping this thing up to temp, shoot, it SHOULD go a long way!

NO doubt about it, cold start, stop/go, cold shut off are MURDER on an engine.

A CTD driven without being shutdown could probably go 1M+ on stock bearings easy.

HOHN

who in gods name would take their truck to a jiffy lube??someone that gets paid minimum wage and is still in high school and just got his first job is not going to do maintainence on my truck!

The highest I have personally witnessed on a Cummins was 1,240,000 with no engine work beyonda set of injectors. This was on a '91 used to deliver Dutchman trailers. He sold it to a farmer in Kentucky for over $4000 about 2 years ago. It still ran very good, the engine was not showing signs of tiring. The guy that owned it was Marty Byrd of Wadesville Indiana.

Considering there are far more PSDs on the road than Dodge Cummins, they have a lot more chances of having million-mile trucks

Vaughn, I figure they have about the same chance as I have winning the Lottery ;)

I completely missed that one vaughn. Thanks.

They are both good trucks. Dont forget that. These pissin matches are fun but we didnt buy a 5. 9 I-6 to win races. We bought it for longevity. The horsepower availability is just the cream on the top.

1 million mile trucks

Something like 80 percent of the wear on an engne is in the first ten minutes it is started up cold. Get it on the road and drive 3000 miles a week (about 500 miles a day) and it will last a long time.

I had a Ford 4x4 6. 9L dsl,sold it with 205,000 on the odommiter.

The guy I sold the truck to has it parked. It has 245,000mi on it.

Its parked.

As far as one in a million,my boy made a long range shot on the basketball court. It will be years before he does it on a consistant basis:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

I guess we won't have to worry about the sketchy details any more. Most of the new 6. 0's are being pulled out with in a week. I guess the real test will be to see who doesn't get there engine pulled. :D

Visited my old buudy this weekend. He has a 1990 PSD with 290K miles on it. He has replaced to long of a list to detail. It is a rolling piece of junk. Might be worth $10. He has to use either every time he starts it :-laf Claims he wants to get 400K miles out of the truck  He wants to buy mine when I get 100K miles on it. Told him I could not sell my baby to anyone that would treat a truck like he has treated his :D Funny thing is I don't think he realized I meant it.

It looks like my pa's 94 is going to go terminal before it hits 200k. He is going to sell it first oportunity. For about 4 grand. Its worth all of that. Its had a hard life but the truck held up alright. Its got its quirks. You have to open the drivers door from the passenger side kinda stuff but all in all I cant say too much. Other than he expected 250k and hes not gonna get it.
