My 03 305/555 has developed a strange problem. About 50% of the time, when I take off from a stop, it literally feels as though the truck accelerates on it's own. If I give it normal throttle, it feels like the truck is at full throttle. As soon as the clutch is engaged, it stops, and everything is back to normal. The second problem which began at the same time is the idle sticks at 1000 all the time. If I mash the brakes to the floor, it idles back down to normal. Am I losing it or what??? My only mod is a Quadzilla XZT, but if unplugged, the problem persists. Any ideas? Reflash? Thanks!

Man you have some serious problems if your truck takes off with the clutch disengaged. You said when you engage the clutch it stops, so when it is diengaged it goes on its own? I think you ment when you push the clutch in everything stops?

Check for codes, it sounds like a throttle position sensor problem...

My 03 does the 1000 rpm idle thing and I've heard it can be the actuator to control the cp3. It hasn't got worse in 35000 miles so it doesn't bother me.

It quits (lets off) when I disengage the clutch. I do ahve a code: P0236. After a quick search, looks like it's a Quadzilla problem, that apparently they have a fix for.

It's normal for an 03 to try to take off on it's own as you describe (manual trans only). There was lots of talk about it in the begining. The problem is reduced slightly by getting one of the later s/w updates but it will always do it to a small degree.

Im glad you got it fixed bud! Oo.

ITS NOT A QUADZILLA PROBLEM!!!!!!!

The first 19k+ manual trucks in 03 have this problem (build date before 1-1-03), its the way they designed the sofware and there is no fix. the anti-stall feature doesnt know when to quit!

this is why i have a 04, its my "replacement vehicle" from dodge.

Maybe I am not real clear on what the "accelerating on its own" problem is but mine doesn't seem to have it. Build date is August '02.

Mine will keep itself from stalling as you let the clutch out and it will begin to accelerate a little (never watched how high the rev's go, I'll check tomorrow) but as soon as the clutch is fully engaged (let out) it just crawls along at idle (750 engine rpms).

The automatic high idle feature (1000rpms based on intake air temp) will drop back to 750 as soon as you touch the brake. Maybe it thinks that the intake air is cold and is doing this all the time.

No mods as you can see from my sig.

Think brick on accelerator. It's very strange, almost like your giving it twice as much throttle as usual; depress the clutch to shift, and it drops off back to 750 (or most times 1000). It only does this about 50% of the time, and usually when taking off from a dead stop, cold. My build date is June '02.

my truck did it before I put the edge on it, only every once in a while, now when it does it... ... . yeehaw, it really takes off (feels like twice the throttle you're givin it). I think mine might have a problem with the throttle position sensor because it will do this sometimes, and then sometimes I will go from second to third gear, let out the clutch, and it will act like I'm giving it half the throttle I am

I know exactly what you are talking about. My truck does the same thing, though it only happens when I have it in 4 hi and take off in second.

Now that I think about it, I suspect that the low end/ off idle power of the SMARTY may be amplifying things a bit.

EXACTLY!! Sometimes it feels like someone has added 200HP without me knowing, then it feels like someone took away 200HP. So, your thinking TPS? I don't have any codes anymore, but it is still acting this way.

I'm not sure, I'm relatively new to diesels, I'm just going by what I've read on other threads. TPS sounds the most logical to me though. I might give my mechanic a call, he's the best mechanic (dodge cummins) I've ever dealt with and see what he says. I'll definitely post if I find out anything.
