Mindless Posting......

Thanks, TDR Staff

Well I am now a married man

A Note To My Fellow TDR and M-D TDC Members...

I'm a member at a few other sites and I would like to thank the members of the TDR for keeping mindless and moronic posting to a minimum- It is very annoying to see threads that add no value- for anyone but the starter to hear/see himself talk. I don't know about everyone, but to me a high post count can mean one of two things- 1. this fellow has been on the board a while and is very knowledgeable or 2. this idiot has no idea what he/she is talking about and thinks having a high post count will impress his friends who already think he is a geek for hanging out on the computer so much. Mindless posting caused the shutdown of the "other" forum at the ford site- And here at the good Ol TDR, We have awesome tech forums, and a diverse "other" forum. But the "other" forum does not contain the lionshare of threads (which is good) I have a friend at the ford site who complains about the "poster children" as he calls them and says they use the site to I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER-chat and talk about mindless crap. There are plenty of sites out there to I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER-chat at. But if someone wants sound tech advice and wants to learn about the coolest vehicles on the road today, I have no problem sending them here.

That's also the reason why the "other" and "politics" forums don't count toward your post count.

yep... i remember the silly "others" posting that was happening when it was still being counted for post count... once that stopped, the silly posting slowed down a good bit... you still get some from time to time, but it is alright in small doses... and if every site that had an "others" forum would just keep the post count from not counting in the "others" forums, you would eleminate much of the extra mindless stuff... [the diesel stops other forums counts to your post count, while the DTR doesn't... ]

and if this was counted in the posts, i'd probably be sitting close to 3k posts now i think [i remember loosing like ±500 posts when the counting stopped here]

Do post counts really matter that much??

Do some people here judge a person and their knowledge just by their post counts??

Justin

It's easy to make that mistake. Many posts doesn't mean somebody knows what they're talking about. On the other hand, if you have a couple thousand posts you could draw the conclusion that person must spend a fair bit of time here and if they were paying any attention at all some of the info should have soaked in. Not true for all, but many.

-Scott

So Nick, what you're saying is you had around 500 mindless posts? :-laf ;) LOL - just kidding.

Justin - I would respond to you, but anyone under 1,000 posts is considered insignificant around here and not worth a response. ;) LOL - Just kidding again.

Hey Tim - do a search on threads started by Doc Tinker if you want a taste of mindless threads. LOL - Sorry Doc! Just kidding! :)

Seriously, Tim - I agree - most TDR threads contain useful info (unlike this one that I'm writing).

Dave

Hey, let's not pick on Doc, it's guys like him and Fletcher that keep us scratching our heads :-laf

-Scott

Actually, I've been missing Doc's threads. For awhile I wondered if he was still a member, but I looked up his profile and saw he was on recently. So I guess he's still around. It seems like he doesn't post much anymore - at least that I've noticed. Maybe he has a job that keeps him busy now. I seem to remember he was in between jobs for awhile - that may have been during the height of his posting frenzy.

Mindless posts. What, me? Of course there was the one about 2 years ago that was titled "Ignore this thread" that ran up about 200 responses before it finally died. What a shame.

Agreed on the mindless posting but what about the members who HAVE to voice in on just about everythread?

There are more than one here. One I think got chewed on by Admin for having 3000+ posts in one year. That nut HAD to express his opinion on almost every topic. There is another one very simular that recently escaped from CA to another state. I finally had enough and added him to my ignor list.

On a simular note, it seems that most of the real brains here have either gone silent or moved to another site. I love it when one of the true brains answers a question and on one of the postaholics has to chime in with some usless comment or unqualified opinion.

There is definately a brain drain here and I think a lot of it is due to people like that.

That is what I was trying to get at- those who have to voice their opinion about EVERYTHING- I really dont mind some of the drivel in the "other" forum- but there are those who will reiterate previous posts or chime in with something silly in the tech forums as well- I guess the point is what my father used to tell me- If you can't add something meaningful to the conversation, then don't add at all-
