Any good merchants to buy towing equipment from?

What is a safe minimum bed clearance for a SWB QCab 4X4 pulling a 5er? I currently have about 8", I would like to lower the hitch about 1 1/2 inches to level the 5er

I wouldn't lower the hitch if it can be avoided. Would be better to raise the tralier, if possible. In some cases the springs can moved around to the top side of the axle tube do this.

Thanks. I have adjustable shackles on the 5er at the top, and I had my truck lowered and leveled at a spring shop. I am only about 1 to 1 1/2 in high in the front end. I just re-measured it and I am 8 3/4 inches from the cap to the bed rail. I have 1 hole left in the hitch, about 1 in. I appreciate the advice. This is my first 5er and we are going on a 7K mile vacation soon, I would really like to be as level as possible to avoid trouble.

If you drop it 1" to 7-3/4" you should be in good shape. Watch it in rough terrain, especially going thru a dip.

I have right at 8" and have come uncomfortably close to hitting at a couple of railroad crossings. If I had to turn at the same time I think I would have hit.

I'm eventually going to have the axles on the trailer moved under the springs to get it lifted a little more and go up with the hitch a little.

Keep a close eye on things if you move the hitch.

Mike
