Anyone have a stock 47RE pan they don't want?

kickdown cable

Checking on local transmission shops for r&r and rebuild costs. One starts at $1,500 and includes basics of clutches, t. c. Another quotes 1,800-2,000 and includes a shift kit. Engine is stock with 235K. Same for transmission. No plans for heavy use or pushing up power. But if there is any t. c. type and brand that is a better value or any other internals I should be considering please give me your opinions and experience on those choices.

Perhaps I should call some of those companys I have seen on the TDR.

I know there could be a lot of opinions on this but I can sort those out.

Thanks for willing viewpoints. Larry

I'm in a similar boat , 265,000 miles , and would like to have a Goerends trans , but that is more than I can do at this time [ truck is running , I think its the TQ slipping when I get on it , down shift for passing is the worse ] trucks a little ruff on body , dents & rust , so its hard to justify $3,500++ , I may try a Goerend TQ and look closely at some internals , check out his site for what to look for , He seems to have the best costumer service , then some of the other trans companies may have equal trans .
Dave has like 4-5 resale / installers , with one being close , your in good shape .

Have same problem... Replaced stock automatic transmission at 60,000 miles. Spent $5,000 for ATS Transmission to replace... . It lasted 40,000 miles. Now not sure what to do. Live in Yreka,ca. Looking for reputable place between here and Medford,Oregon that may be of help. Good luck "Partner"

I would head South to Redding Ca and look for J&H Trans

I have read good things about them... . also you should be under the ATS warranty still why not let then fix it?

Purchased New Trans & Torque Converter 5-27-04 from ATS. So looks like I'm 6 months to late for warranty. transmission locked up in gear 9-08-06 in Red Bluff Ca. Took to Red Bluff Dodge and they took $800. out of my pocket. Still locked up with no fix. Then they said needs "NEW TRANS":confused::eek: [Couldn't reach ATS till Monday morning] They said get it out of The dealership and go to J&H Performance in Redding. Another tow bill... ... . J&H repaired in one day. $300. Very impressed. Dropped pan today and a lot of metal flakes on drain plug and filter. Looks like maybe I'll see about getting towed 100 miles to Redding. As to transmission, looks like stock transmission got me 60,000 miles compared to ATS 40,000:confused: Medford, Oregons closer [45 miles] if anyone knows a "GOOD transmission PLACE"

By the sounds of things you just need a stock rebuild with perhaps a couple of minor upgrades to keep the truck going. Your biggest obstacle is finding a transmission shop that knows what the heck they're doing and offer a good warranty. There a re lots listed with TDR, check those guys out. I built automatics for years at a GM dealership, and this is my advise to you. Spend a little extra and get good brand name internals/soft parts - ie just cause Billy Joes transmission shop has these clutches for $1, and says there as good as Alto or BorgWarners, doesn't mean they are. A good torque converter makes all the difference as well. I would recommend a torque converter form ANY of the the vendors on TDR, DTT, ATS, whatever, your choice because opinions on that could go on for pages. Finally a minor shift kit just to firm shifts up a little and possible boost line pressure up and you should be good to go.

Getting some helpful views and have decided to have local rebuilder I have known many years and he seems to have a clear grasp and experience with the needs and solutions to more oil pressure and flow. He has not pressed for a new valve body but described what can be done with it. But tomorrow they will have it out for inspection and assess what to do. Going out of town for rebuild just leaves me nervous over potential future issues so I just want to be as well informed and confident in upgrade choices that make sense for stock use.

What I still wonder is the need for any upgrade of torque converter, such as double disk? Is it safe to assume all, including Dodge rebuilt stock TCs are equally improved over the "original" factory stock? Are prices and warranntys comparable ? Is fuel milage affected by stock vs upgrading?

Have only moderate to light use of truck.

Any other suggestions/recommendations are very welcome! Thanks again. Larry

Minimum transmission rebuild

Larry, sorry to hear about your problem. Dodge is supposed to be coming out with a Reman H. D. transmission for our trucks. For the 48RE the PN is R5103353AD, $3,195. 00 with upgraded T. C. , V. B. & etc. Warranty 3yrs. or 80,000 mi. Gary.

Will say, Richard Brown (Brown's Diesel) went through my auto with Goerend's parts & I'm very pleased with the results. Give him a call, & his prices are good to boot.

a decent single TC should hold stock power. a stall that fits your truck say 1900 vs 2200rpms would improve milage without "dogging" like a 1700 stall would. Also a "mystery switch" is a good, cheap, simple toy to play with.
