What is the drop in EGT by removing the stock muffler?

Another bargain from the 5 Star stealer

I am writing this for someone who has a 96 Automatic Ram. He is not a memeber yet, but is interested in adding power to his cummins. As you see in my sig below I do not own a 12 valve nor an auto so I am least qualified to answer questions.

His truck is 100 % stock, His questions are, what mild power upgrades are available and what is the minimum power increase to start modifying the transmission. I have mentioned guages, but thats about all.

Thanks Ken.

TST #6 plate kit and an EGT guage is about the minimum thing to do for a nice increase in power. Good bang for the buck and the stock transmission should handle it. BEWARE!!! The BOMB virus will get him and he won't quit there!:p  :D

Everyone knew I was gonna say this but... .

I'd put in a governor spring kit... . it has been the single most impressive improvement to the overall driveability of my truck since I bought it. I HIGLY recommend picking a set of springs/seats up from Piers... . it's #2 on the list of things to do... . #1 is gauges.

Call Piers @ 604-888-4159... . he'll tell you all about it.

Thanks guys for the responses, I snaged this guy over on the Allpar site. I do not think he was aware of the potential of these trucks. Also I hope he will become a new member. I check out the Allpar site every now and then to try and catch the cummins owners and guide them over to the DARKSIDE. ;)

For a 96 auto, #8 TST gives 230 hp. That is a good level and about the most that is reasonably safe with a stock trans. I'd avoid the gov spring kit in the early stages of power enhancements. It is too easy to have a problem dropping a shim, bucking etc. if you get a click off on the lock for the springs, and the gov kit is designed to increase rpm range, not much for power. Seat of the pants isn't very reliable, dyno testing tells the story.
