Moving 3 Trailers to Move...

leaky roof

I found one of those "Too good to be true" deals. A brand new Mirage enclosed trailer with 5200 pound torsion axles with a payload of about 6900 pounds for 6K. Its a bare bones trailer, nothing fancy. Does anyone have any experience with them? They're built in Idaho and they seem to be a good trailer for the money but I've never heard of them and before I plunk down my hard earned green, I thought I'd ask the experts here if anybody's had good or bad experiences with them.

I just pulled a cargo trailer to the Mexican border for a friend. 20ft long, 5200lb axles, radial tires and brakes on both axles with the wedge nose. He said he gave 7 for it. I think it was made by featherlite. I remember seeing a tag on it. We weighed it and trailer and contents weighed over 13k. The truck handled it just fine. Just because he had it I hooked up the weight distributing hitch and sway bar.

My friend bought a 24ft car hauler 2 yrs ago. Unlike the competition it is 24ft inside deck not outside length. He only paid $6200 then. The construction is much better then most. Dexter style torsion axles, dovetail rear deck, 1-1/2" floor. Wells cargo, Haulmark, and Interstate were all looked at but the count the tongue as part of the length. They also do not neccessarily have the dovetail and they only had 1" floors. They really seem to be a good bang for the buck. The 24' carhualer in is about $7200 at Trailers Plus - Home Page - Welcome!. They are in Yerington Nv.

The story that I was told is as follows: Apparently the guy that owns Mirage used to be in management at Wells Cargo. There was a falling out between them and he started Mirage as a way to cut into their bootom line. Good story just don't know if it's valid.

Well I bought it. The thing that impressed me was the shipping weight was 3050 pounds and the payload is almost 7000 pounds. Haven't really pulled it anywhere yet but will load it up and move from WA to San Antonio at the beginning of next month so I should be able to report some info on them. It has the ST D rated tires on it made by Trail America. I can't find out who makes them anywhere and I've read most of the threads about tires posted here. I'm just going to keep my speed to 65 and weigh the truck and trailer axles to make sure I'm not overloaded.
