mydodgeparts.com has the west coast style mirrors I have been looking high and low for. But it says that these mirrors can not be used as a replacement for power / heated mirrors. Why is this? I know they won't be power or heated. I just want to see past my trailer.

I just replaced my power heated mirrors with a pair of Bestop power heated mirrors. Boy, are they huge! I have not towed with them, yet, but will be heading to deer camp next Friday.

I thought about the Dodge mirrors but settled on these due to

good reviews. I also found the price at Summit Racing very good at $320 delivered. Installed them in about one hour.

If you are set on the ones you mentioned, buy them. If the electric functions aren't important to you they are your best bet. I personally like to press a button and have them defog.

ilplumber- where on the site did you find the west coast mirrors? All I found were factory style mirrors, not the ones that are on most Class 8 tractors.

These #ad
are west coast mirrors, not these #ad

This is from the dodgeparts.com site

Trailer Towing Mirrors are easily installed to help improve visibility when towing wide or long trailers. They feature premium-quality glass on a sturdy steel mount to help insure stable, vibration-free reflections. 7. 5"x10" (manual), left and right mirrors, factory mirrors must be removed, power control and defrost functions are deactivated.

It say functions are deactivated, meaning the mirrors themselves have no power functions. They can be used on your truck and it is a simple bolt on job. I have those on my truck but it came that way. If you do a search on towing mirrors you will find that the older ones and the newer electric ones can be morphed into power mirrors that fit the older trucks (2nd Gen). I will do this when I find a spare $300 laying around to buy a set of the power ones.

Note: at this time they do not make a power option for the older Ram trucks yet.

That statement makes me think that maybe they are going to make them though.

The reason that I asked, was that You can get power (up/down and left/right) and heated mirrors for the west coast mirrors. Found them at Midwest Wheel in Davenport, Ia. Didn't ask the price.

ilplumber, are these the ones you got?

See now I am a little slow, I was on dodgeparts.com not mydodgeparts.com, now I see what you were saying and my guess for not replacing the power mirrors with these is because you'll need a cover to put over the area where the old ones were??? Now why would you want those ugly things and have to drill holes in your doors when you could get the flip up ones with the same mirror and extension size for $43 more

I beg your pardon. . . My DOC has a set of heated aftermarket flipups he is selling for $200, I wanted to have him put them on my truck and he told me I was better off with what I had. If anyone wants to know what and who I'm talking about PM me. I have actual WestCoasters on my 96 F350 CC Dually, I could see alot to the rear with them, but you wouldn't believe what can be hidden from your front vision behind WestCoasters. Had to learn to rock forward and look around the mirrors before turning. Bout nailed a youngin on a bicycle that had crossed against the light early morning and he was wearin black. I got stopped in time, but it was closer than I care to have happen again. Pickups may be too low for that much of an obstruction straight out from the driver's vision. No doubt the rear vision was best I ever had. I may have heating grids put in these, I fog alot, and ice up many times running through rain and sleet that freezes at highway speed. Don't like being blind to the rear and sides.
