I have a 2001 2500 with the standard electric/heated mirrors. I want to swap to the trailer tow mirrors, but have been told by my dealer that the trailer tow mirrors with power and heat, which became available on the 2002 2500, will not work on a 2001 even though it is the same body style. Is this true? Is it a different wiring harness? Has anybody done this kind of swap before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

tow mirrors

the 2002 mirrors no not have power or heat. To get power and heat, you have to get '03 tow mirrors and install them on the '02 tow mirror mounts. you are in the same boat as me, I want tow with power and heat , I'm going to have to buy 2  sets of mirrors or go aftermarket for them. :(

It’s my understanding that the 03 mounting plate will fit the 01. Don't know for sure, but this comes from a fairly reliable source.

I just did this last month and what you will need is a pair of '03 mirrors and a pair of '02 and down mounting bases. You have to take the mounting bases off of the '03's and put them on the '02 bases. The wiring has to be extended on the mirrors about 14" and then you have to do a little playing around to get the wires connect to the correct ones, the colors do not match between the two.

Or you can go with PowerVisions and get full electric adjustability, heat and power extend/retract. Just one more option.
