2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission mirror vibrates EXCESSIVELY

Seems my outside mirrors have always vibrated but WOW. My drivers side is so bad unless on a perfectly smooth asphalt road makes it very difficult to see... It appears it is actually the side of the door where the mirror is mounted that is vibrating so badly... I have purchased a set of the

electric extension mirrors many of you recommended but am kinda afraid to put them on... Any thoughts or suggestions???? Other than buying a half ton or a 3/4 ton... Mine is a 99 dually... . Help???????

Is this a new or existing problem? If existing there is an extra backing plate that is avail thru the dealer that can be put on to stiffen up the mounting area?

I have the towing mirrors and one thing that happened to mine was the silicone they put the mirror glass on with was coming loose causing the mirror to vibrate. I just got some more silicone and re-glued them.

Same thing here last weekend, the silicon was adheared to the glass fine but didnt stick to the plastic mirror frame very good at all, I redid them with some new locktight adhesive and all is well now.

yup. this has always been a problem altho never as bad as now... The new mirrors I bought are the CIPA manual extened, electric operated. . They mount the same place as the factory mirrors... Dealer raplaced passenger side at 10K miles it was so loose... The driver side is not the glass per se, but seems to actually be the door frame that bounces and vibrates so badly, causing the factory mirror frame to dance. . If there is an additional backer plate, can you give me a little more info? I may need to use it when I install the new CIPA tow mirrors. I only have 67000 miles on my rig so it's not like the mirror frame should be worn out...

Super dave, Not sure where it is, but it's a TSB that had to do with tthe mirrors viberating from the additiona of bug deflectors (change of air flow) but the larger mirrors might do the same thing. The dealer should know about this mod and should be able to provide you with this stiffening plates. I will see if I can find the TSB on it.

It sound like your mirror might just be loose. This is an easy fix (or diagnosis if it doesn't fix it).



Remove the screw in the door panel near the power mirror switch.



Pry the corner of the panel back a little, you probably won't have to pop more than a couple retaining clips loose. (They're plastic and the snap into a hole in the door. Don't worry, they snap in and out of the door and slide into a slot on the panel itself. )



Using a 10mm wrench, tighten the 3 nuts holding the mirror to the door. If they aren't loose, try wiggling the mirror and see what's going on.



The new mirrors you have coming include the stiffener plate included on the '00 and up factory (non-power) tow mirrors. I'm not sure if the standard mirrors used them o not after '97.
