i have a 99 3500 bought new and the outside mirrors [heated electric standard] vibrated so badly i could not identify what brand of car was following me or even if it was a cop car... . at about 3500 miles i finally talked the dealer into replacing the left one as it was about to fall out of the housing... . but still baaad!!!! then i had bug shields put on... still bad vibration on mirrors... fianlly went back to dealer and complained mightily... . service rep stated DC has a service bulletin out that "bug shields CAUSE the mirror vibration"... . sound fishy to you???? i have given up being able to tell if it is a car or a truck behind me... . [maybe a little exageration]..... but is a real nuisance... plus any canned drink in the cup dash cup holder vibrates enuff to spill out in a major way... had to go to bottles. any ideas about the morrors????? thanks.

Sounds like a bunch of BS from the dealer to me. My 97 with towing mirrows is steady as a rock at 70 MPH. You have something out of balance that is causing the vibration. Check your driveline and tires.

Good luck

superdave

I don't know if this will help, but my mirrors were rock steady 'till I put my bug shields on... now they have a hi-speed wobble... not sure if I'll leave the shield on or not... ... .

I experienced varying degrees of vibration in the driver side OE mirror (electric, heated, mickey mouse ears) when I had four different bug shields mounted on my Ram. After I removed them (but before I went to the Air Bulldog induction hood), the vibration in the driver side mirror was slightly reduced although, not eliminated. I never had a vibration problem with the passenger side mirror. Many on this BB have experienced varying degrees of vibration problems with the driver side mirror... with or without bug shields installed.

I have a 99 3500 with the "monkey bars" towing mirrors... I have no vibration with or without my bug shield. (Currently without).

seems many of us have this vibraiton problem with the mirrors. how do you convince the dealer to replace them when DC says it is the bug shield... also of there is a "fix" bulletin on this does anyone know the number???

SuperDave, can't you just take off the bugshield and then go to the dealer for help. I don't see how they can't blame it if it isn't even installed.

There is a TSB on the effect of the bug shields on the mirrors vibration, if you have problems with drinks vibrating in the holder there is something else wrong like u joints or tire balance, drive shaft balance. Check Dave Fritz web site for TSB,s or do a search on loose mirrors, thats how I found it. My mirror was so loose at the breakaway pivot it would come back against the truck at 80mph but thats a different fix.

Good Luck

Shaky mirrors

I installed 2001 mirrors which are great for towing and the right side is flat for a better view. Check it out at your dealer on the new trucks. Make them give you the special discount.

Yes there is a TSB out on vibrating driver's side mirror. It is in one of the earlier issues of TDR. But is it fact or fiction?

Seems one of the members (maybe the editor) came up with a backyard fix. I thought some one took the mirror apart and glued something inside of it. This is for standard mirrors
