First I'd like to say this is a cool site, just joined.

I took delivery of my '03, HO, 6spd, DRW, leather and loaded minus side air bags, back in like Feb or March. I notice right away the the passenger side mirror jiggled quite a bit and was worse when flipped upright.

I stopped in the dealership to complain about the shabby job they did installing the running boards (which I fixed myself, they had it cobbled up enough already), and when I asked about the mirrors one of the other techs said there was a recall on the mirrors and I should be getting something in the mail ... ... . but, I havn't.

I was wondering if anybody has noticed their mirrors bouncing around? I had the dumbo mirrors on my '99 and they were rock solid.

2nd. My tailgate lays on my rear bumper and has the paint messed up ... ... . has anyone seen this?

Thanx

-Jeff

This webpage lists current TSBs and recalls. I see nothing, and haven't heard of any TSB or recall on the mirrors. Mine are solid, no shaking, but I've never used them in the flipped position.

As for the tailgate, sounds like your bumper is mounted wrong or something whacky. There's a couple inches, easily, between tailgate and bumper when my tailgate is down...

Welcome to the site! Lots of good people here with good help.

I don't have the problems you do - my mirrors are rock solid and no tailgate/bumper interferance.

Good luck.

Welcome! I have the standard mirrors and yes, the passenger side mirror sometimes gets a little blurry from vibration. But it's very minor. The weird part about this is my 93 did the same thing:confused:

My tailgate doesnt touch the bumper. Sounds like your bumper may be installed wrong. Make them fix it.

mirror

my passenger side mirror shakes when tilted upright. nothing major though. i can still see out of it with no problem. mine seems to be shaking from the arm and not the mirror glass itself. i haven't had time to take it back to the dealer.

no problems with the tailgate.

Jeff,

My passenger-side trailer mirror jiggled since the truck was new.

It appeared that the detent that holds the arm out was not strong enough. The head did not move relative to the arm and the glass did not move relative to the head, but the whole arm jiggled just enough to blur the image. Mentioned it to dealer at first oil change, expecting them to adjust it. They just ordered a new mirror assembly and replaced it under warranty. New one works fine, but lacks 4,000 miles of bug splat the old one had from my trip to Texas. ;)

Sounds like your tailgate or bumper needs to be checked. My tailgate has plenty of clearance to the SW Fab bumper, as it did with the flimsy DC piece.

Drive safe!

Alan.

The tilt on bumper is too high. Mirrors shook on previous rear models also. Replaced both on my 1998 1500 slt and new did the same thing. Still do!

Thnak guys.

I was going to call the dealer about the mirrors the other day ..... and again got busy.

I towed a tri-axle trailer loaded with a Ford 4000 and bush-hog the other day ... ... . have about 1/4" clearance bumper to tailgate now:eek: . Obviously something wrong here.

Thanx Jeff

BTW, thank you DIESELMAN for the insightful information, you are a wealth of knowledge and surely the envy of your circle of friends!

btw, livetodrive, the glass seems to be loose inside of the head of mine ... ..... I need to make a stop at the dealer.

course the way they screwed up my running boards, I'm not sure I want to

J - I've learned all the proper techniques for towing and pushing my friends fords out of the way, the problem just sounded familiar thats all:) Don't mention it, were here to help!
