I was stopped in a turn lane waiting for my green light. I see a oncoming cargo van. I see the van drift towards my lane, then recover, then drift again. WHACCCCCKKKKKKK! My fold out mirror comes to its folded-in position with authority. That no good *%$@!@#$ just hit me ! What follows is a three point turn, lots of diesel and tire smoke and a p-o'd 2500 pilot chasing down a woman driver. She pulls over and I follow in kind. Ask her if she found the crack pipe she was looking for when she hit my mirror. She looks confused ( go figure). With a flashlight I inspect my mirror housing expecting the worse. A scuff!! I fold the mirror back out, and in a few times to be sure it is in working order. 90% of the scuff comes off with my finger and what is left looks like what may have resulted from a bird hit. She admits, I guess I wasn't paying attention. I reply what if instead of my mirror, you hit a kid. You drive a ton and a half of steel. You NEED to pay attention. I told her to beat feet and that I didn't need to talk to the insurance thieves.
Truly a testament to how strong these trucks are made, a 35 MPH mirror whack and merely a flesh wound!
