Does anyone out there in TDR land know if the elephant ear style mirrors form the 2002’s will fit on a 98. I tow a lot and the mirror extensions I have now are junk. I’ve looked at aftermarket mirrors and like the one’s on the 2002’s better than the after market ones. I have heated and adjustable mirrors now and would like to retain those features. Thanks, Jeff

I was just wondering the same thing! Well, sort of. I know they'll fit, but, well, here's the deal:

We have a Y2K dually at work, which has the big tow mirrors, one is broke. I found I can get new glass pretty easy. They're not power adjust, but by the mirror heat button on the dash I presume they are heated. I'd like to swap them for my little mirrors, which are powered and heated.

I'm willing to give up the power adjust as long as I can keep the heat, and I'd put my adjust knob on the work truck as well as anything else (wireing) that may need swapped.

I dont mind if the harness connectors are different, that is easy to deal with. I like to know if the Y2K without power adjust would have provision to just "add on" my power adjust components.

Does this sound like something that can be done rather easy?

PS- I know this is a WAY old thread, and I could copy/paste post #1 for my own new thread, but I like to recycle and this thing better than $0. 85/lb! :-laf :-laf

bparker,

I believe there is replacement glass available for the 2001 tow mirrors with the convex included. The dealer can find the number but they make out having you buy the whole mirror and arm. I was traveling the cow paths in PA (what they call roads) when another dually and I met and cleaned mirrors off each others truck. Neither of us could move off the cow path due to brush and over growth on the shoulder. $300 plus to get a new mirror ordered and installed and then I read a post on just the lens (glass) being available.

Sure hope he has resolved the glass problem since his post was made more than five years ago:)

Replacement glass is available for most mirrors: Burco Inc. - Manufacturer of Automotive Glass Replacement Products Glass shops can help when the dealer is clueless.

I have the CIPA's from Geno's, although the driver's side mirror mount and head remains very firm the glass vibrates on the road, the passenger side does not do this, I assume the driver's side vibrates due to the door being open and shut much more frequently, I enjoy the CIPA's except for this vibration, if I could find a better power towing mirror fix I would buy it!

Shortly after I posted last night, I found that 16pg thread about the Kool-vue debacle. They sound like a good idea, if i were looking to buy new mirrors, and I got ahold of a good distributor that had supply.

I have oppertunity for a "trade", and as I also read in the kool-vue thread, it looks like all thing are go for me as soon as I find a new glass. Oo.

I just installed a set of Kool-Vue power heated towing mirrors on my '96. I've tried to put all the information, schematics, part numbers, and what to do information on my web site: Dodge Ram - Towing Mirror Upgrade Information - '94 to '06

That's better than having to go through 200 postings to get the information. If folks have suggestions, email me and I'll update my web page. This includes a good source for the mirrors.
