My '97 sled has 100,000 miles on the clock, and has been a good and faithful friend.
Most of the minor—but much ballyhooed—annoyance gremlins have taken roost in my baby's belfry in recent months, however, and she needs a few tweaks to gain her self-respect back...
The fuel sender hung up its spurs a couple years back, and I've learned to rely on the trip-set feature of the odometer. The pushbutton, storage console's lid no longer responds to its button, and its foam, vinal-covered-top has an elbow-pressure dent that you could lose a cat in.
The power-actuated door lock on the driver's side works when it wants to, but has been on strike, pretty consistently, for a couple of months.
I've noticed an almost imperceptible vibration in the steering wheel when I make sharp, slow-speed turns, too. It's not so much a vibration, per se, as the sensation you feel when you turn the steering wheel to the limit of its travel, and make the pump strain—kind of a light, "buzzing" sensation. If I could miniaturize whatever's causing this, I'd be on every woman's "tupperware party" invite list.
The low beams have been turning off, completely, when I tilt the steering wheel down; if I tilt it back up, they come back on. This has provided some excitement on the interstates at night. I've complained to my local Dodge dealer, who's offered the following cautionary advice, "Don't be adjusting your steering wheel position when driving—that's dangerous. "
I've been thinking about having an additional, aft-axle fuel tank added. Figured I'd correct the sending unit problem in the main tank at the same time. Anyone with any advice on installers and brands (southeast USA), I'd appreciate it.
Finally, the front seats are shot. I think I want to do more than add a piece of half-inch plywood and new foam to the driver's side. I'm 6'6" and 270 pounds, so I don't need to "sit higher," just more comfortably. New leather would be nice, too. Anyone got any input on new seats, upholstery, kits, or installers in the Atlanta area, or southeast?
Thanks.
