I own a 4. 5 that has a misfire after starting when engine is cold. It seem to clear up after the engine has warmed up. I was looking at the TSB listed for the 04 trucks, and it appears that TSB-14-003-05 may check out this problem. Has anyone had this simular problem, or had the TSB Revised diagnostic procedure done for their trucks. Unable to get a full copy TSB local to review. Don't want to take truck in for service if this is not critical, as the truck is doing OK other wise.

Probably depends on how long it misses, and how long it blows white smoke (if any) and more importantly, how cold it is when it misses. The new diesel diagnostic TSB says smoke for 1 minute or less is acceptable.

Probably has something to do with fuel type and quality also. Remember, these things rely on heat to light the fire, and one should expect them to run a bit rough when first started for all the reasons noted above.

How long does it take to clear up?

Mine takes about 10-20 seconds.

Nothing to worry about in that amount of time.

My 99 ISB sounds like its going to throw a rod in the same kind of weather when started.

It seems odd to me that all the CTD don't do this, It's sad that DC just wants to blow you guys off.

I agree, it is sad. My '03 didn't even smoke one bit when started in -10F without being plugged in. Now my '05 blows white smoke and misses when it's 60F or below. Nice going Dodge.

Mine levels out and run correct after it has reached the operating Temperature. The miss reminds me of a plug fouled in a gas engine, until it is cleared out.

I was going to ask about this condition as my 05 is doing the same thing. Also, I'm blowing some pretty good smoke when accelerating after 5 or 10 minutes of freeway cruising (65 mph), and occasionally I have a rough idle, even when warm. Do I need to take it in for service?

P. S. When getting on the freeway in the morning it blow A LOT of smoke.

i had the 037 reflash done and it still did it, but hasn't yet this year It hasn't sit in the cold for more than 8 hours at a time yet either, usually it took a day or two of cold and not starting it before it would rough idle.
