2001 24 Valve 6 speed manual. Stone Stock, 170,000 miles. When it is cold and I start it (always plugged in) it has a bad miss. I mean it is a dead cylinder, you can put you had over the exhaust, it pulses, it is dead, and smoke... . Man, it is a fogger, you cant see the back of the truck. This will go on for sevearl minutes. I let it idle for about 2 or 3 minutes when it is cold (below 25) and when I take off, the truck is shaking. After a few minutes of driving, it clears up and runs fine.

I dont think so, the engine idle speed is still normal, and it sounds normal except for the one "chug chug chug". It still misses even while driving, for the first mile or so. i dont know what this 3 cylinder stuff is about. Mine starts and runs "normal", even at zero, but again, I always plug it in.

miss in engine

Probably a bad injector ? If it seems plasable have them taken out and pop tested. Mine were from 2600 to 4100 psi. THe dollarship didn't think that they should be done so had them done elsewhere.

Paul, Id have your injectors checked.

The "High Idle, 3 cyl shut down" is a re-flash of your computer that you can have done to help aid in warm-ups BUT it wont work if you have the truck plugged in. The high idle comes on at certian peramiters and then the 3 cyl comes on at more extreme peramiters (of cold) it a great flash if you let the truck sit in a place where you cant access a electrical outlet.

My truck would stumble and blow white/blue smoke on start-up all the time (warm and cold weather) but after the new/used Diesel Dynamic stage 3 injectors it just blows black smoke on start up and has no stumble issue.

Any interest in the Great Lakes Turbo Diesel Registry? I see youre from Chicago.
