CAC pressure test setup (for all gens)

$539.95 for an Air Filter??!!

Nothing heard yet. . But Im trying to figure out the best way to bypass the mechanical and run directly off of the existing FASS (for purging air, mechanical pump leak or failure). Maybe a Tee on its input side that goes through a one-way check valve (to eliminate backflow from its output), then tees back into the output line.

Would like to use a hobbs switch to activate a led & buzzer in the cab if pressure dies, then can manually throw a pump run switch to turn on the fass and fuel would automatically flow around the mechanical pump.

Can feed the mechanical pump from the existing hose that runs from the fass due to its built in bypass. (I know it works because I drove with the fass motor not running and the VP pulled its own fuel).

Any ideas on a good way to bypass the mechanical pump? Maybe should use manual ball valves, but would prefer it to automatically bypass.

Also, dont care to replace the oem filter cap and have a hose coming out of the top.

WELL, while this was/is just another of my shade tree, "Rube Goldberg" monstrosities, it's at least an idea - and is working well on both the Walbro main LP. as well as the backup, relocated OEM LP down on the frame of my '02 - also have the Hobbs Switch, an in-cab warning flasher/buzzer low fuel PSI alarm...

All this stuff is currently still installed on the truck, and all operating flawlessly (so far!) :-laf:-laf

Exactly! Yeah, the bypass setup is very interesting. . I especially liked your post here: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...fuel-bypass-regulator-valves.html#post1706654

You've really got the homebrew valves & psi bleeders figured out.

I got a little kick from your video showing the chime in use, etc. Especially when you mentioned the consenquences of forgetting the transfer pump is still running (oops! sounded QUITE familiar - 'nuff said). Also enjoyed the thread showing your place in the winter. . very nice!!

The bypass around the pump with a one way valve sounds like the answer. Since I'm not as savvy with the homebrew valves, Ill have to find one already fabbed, and would like to match it up with the existing 1/2" line theme as possible, otherwise ill defeat the whole purpose of having that size in the first place. Then find a bypass regulator to add at the VP.

Gary - Thanks again for your contributions and ideas. . Think that cleared up my question and confirms the ways I want to go also. It will be: Automatic fuel bypass (probably with the addition of a manual shut off in case of a pump seal failure), audio/visual warning in cab, manual backup pump run switch on the a-piller, next to the existing transfer pump mini switch.

Now to find a mechanical pump kit available... . ;)(opie - stefan);)

I found a way to extend the life of the lp's electrical or mechanical - bought a burgman 400 super scooter ;).

Now, that aughtta drive a real good sized lift pump. :)

If the mechanical pump becomes difficult to obtain, I'll mount an original oem carter pump back by the tank as a backup and plumb it in parallel with the fass using a couple of simple ball valves and call it "good".

The reason I did research on gear pumps is "what if DTT / GDP / Opie decide it is not worth their time to offer a mechanical pump?"

I think the gear pump is the correct solution and we might have to figuer out how to apply a industrial commercially available gear pump on our own.
