20=22% methanol example: 25 gallon batch would require 5 gallons of methanol. You will add the amount of KOH as determined by the titration of feedstock. average could be 750 grams of KOH to the methanol. This mixture should yield 25 gallons of fuel, 5 gallons glycerol as waste. There is an excel spreadsheet you will find by googling biodiesel-o-matic.

About what does your total cost per gallon avg. out around? I talked to a friend of mine that owns a tire shop and they buy methanol in bulk for filling tractor tires i believe. He said he could set me up with the dealer. Not sure yet on what they can get it for, but what is a descent price on it?

I think about $4. 00 is normal when you buy by the drum. KOH can be hard to find as well. Look for local tanners and/or a company named UNIVAR is nation wide chemical supplier where I get mine from. I use 22-25% methanol. KOH is alot more forgiving than NaOH. With NaOH it is much easier to make GLOP. (GLOP is not good)

It really depends where you get it from but I paid $3 agallon last month when I bought 2 55 gallon barrels.

If you were asking what the average cost of finished Bio is, it can vary with free fatty acid content on the feed stock but with that said mine averages between . 70 and . 80 cents a gallon. I use 22% methanol and KOH.

Read read and when you get done doing that read more.

http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/recipecalculator/biodiesel-o-matic.xls is and excel spreadsheet that will calculate exactly what you need. It also calculates you cost per gallon.

http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/recipecalculator/ if you don't have excel available. Make a small batch according to the instructions on this site. The Dr. Pepper method is great because you can see the reaction when it happens. You can see what happens when you wash. It is a great educational tool.

Definately read all you can on the that site. There are some links at the bottom of the page. biodiesel. infopop. cc is a great forum to read for tips.
