Mixing Super Tech w/ Delo 400 LE

I use to get my 2005 RAM oil from Costco, and bought Delo 400. Now they only sell Delo 400 LE. I bought a case of it, and then did some research on the forum.



I'm going to buy some Walmart Super Tech 15W40 and I think I will mix the two, until the Delo is used up. Anybody see any problems with that?

There is a reason things are "cheap" at a discount store like wal mart. I would stay away from cheap oil and stick with a good oil like Texaco Delo, Shell Rotella T or Chevron Ursa.

I don't believe there's a thing wrong with the Wal-Mart Super Tech nor would I be afraid to use it, however I don't believe I would mix any two oils because you may be creating some weird additives, chemically. If your not happy with the Chevron Delo from Costco, take it back, with or without the receipt.

Don't want to start an oil war here, but if you look at issue 57 page 59 you will see that WalMart Super Tech Universal was rated at "satisfactory" where as Shell Rotella T was rated "Ho Hum. " If Delo made the old regular oil, I'd stay with it, but for our 3rd gen 5. 9's it is not the recommended oil, when they switched to LE. I'm not into synthetic oil so I will stick to what the TDR study says will work...

I run Rotella T in EVERYTHING, including customer's forklifts, our diesel air compressors at work, my Liberty, push mower, ATVs, riding mower, welder, all Yanmar powered equipment I have, my Mercedes, my trucks... . no problems at all. I don't blame you on the synthetics... No matter HOW good the oil, there are certain things an oil filter cannot filter out (fuel dilution, water) and I believe in draining and changing it every 5000 miles (or hourly intervals) and using a reliable oil. Rotella is trusted by truckers who depend on their rigs for their living, so it has always been good enough for me.

If it makes you feel any better Shell blends and bottles most of Wal-mart brand motor oil. They blend the oil to the specification of the customer and the chemists test it. Once its passed they bottle it. It is made from base stock which can come from any of the refiners, Shell, Chevron, Exxon. Look on the back of the bottle there are some codes, if it says HLP, it was processed in Houston. They also bottle and blend John Deere and a few others. Been a while since I was there very interesting process to see. I have been thinking of switching from Rotella myself, just have not made up my mind to do so.

i cant see mixing the oil will hurt anything, but if your just arent comfortable with doing so, take it back or find someone who will use it. personally i would use the oil straight, and use it up that way. seems to me the tdr article recommended more frequent oil changes, when useing the newer oils in older engines. i know lots of folks who use the both delo and rotella oils, i use to run through about 75 gallons of each on a yearly basis, and was pleased with it myself. been running both brands in diesel's since the stuff was packaged in cardboard cans back in the 70's. with tdr's article on useing these newer oils in solid lifter engines, i decided to change to an older ci rateing oil from a local farm supply. with the higher prices of the delo and rotella oils, plus their tdr rateing's, it was easier and cheaper to switch over to one older ci brand.
