MN TDR Bomb/BBQ/DYNO DAY(EDITED)

Well Gentlemen,

It's already fall and I know some of you guys are itching to have a gathering. Right now I'm setting one up on October 18th. Like the last time we'll go from 10am till we run out of trucks. I have found a Dyno shop in Spring Lake Park that has a Dynojet dyno that can do our trucks. I have been told our HP numbers may be a bit low cause the dyno can't load us down properly, but it will still be fun. Speaking with them, You drive Your truck on the Dyno. That way if you don't want to push it past a certian point, you don't have to. Depending on how many trucks we get will be the deciding factor on the price. Right now it looks like about $35-40 a truck per back to back run. Hopefully the weather cooperates, that time of year is good for Indian summer. I will be trying to get a mailing list ready and a mini-news letter going as well. Anyone with any questions feel free to drop me a line.

Josh,

A mailing list may not be required as I will be setting up a MNTDR web forum (similar to this one) at http://mntdr.org. I got your message about the website, good to know that somebody has been keeping an eye on it. Anyway, I got around to getting the meet section together last night and finally made it live today. It's just a collection of pics right now but with the ability to add image comments, who knows what it could end up being. A lot of work has gone into making this is an easy to use and professional looking website. I'd be very interested in any input from MNTDR members. Anyway, the July 19th meet pics can be seen here.

As far as an October meet goes... I'm game, depending on my wife of course (she's due in early November with our first). I'm sure you will get the same response from Chuck.

I didn't know you were expecting! Congrats! If you 2 can't make it due to the little ones, I don't think anyone will complain!

Again I thank you for setting up the web page!

newsletter

I will continue the newsletter. Many folks prefer to get an email over having to go a website and search out get together notices. Remember, many still only have dial-up service.

Josh;

Glad to see you planned a party for the fall.

Thanks

-John

edit:

Congrats on the first Curt.

Your life will never be the same... ... .

I will be there. I will bring the timing kit if anyone needs it. I hope to have a #0 plate in the old gal by then. That scrawny little #10 just doesn't seem to cut it anymore:rolleyes: !!!

Hey Guys,

Count me in too, I missed out on the spring party and I am not going to miss this one. Will anyone be able to help me check the timing on my pump and maybe kill my dowel pin? I have heard that the 2nd gen KDP takes a different jig that my 1st gen but I am not sure. If it does take a different jig does anyone know where I can find one?

Best regards,

Kurt.

It almost looks like I don't have anything going on that weekend.

I should be able to make it for once. sounds like a great bunch!!

I'm gonna plan on being there. I don't want to let the cat outta the bag quite yet. But I'm gonna go there for other reasons. I'll let Josh tell you what else he has planned.

Should be a blast. Are you ready for some fun, Chili?

Josh, did they give you a reason as to why they wouldn't be able to load the trucks properly? Are they going to be able to get torque readings? Sounds like it should be a good time. I hope they have a good ventalation system in their shop :D

It's just the nature of the beast when you test on a Dynojet. The roller just isn't enough to get our trucks up to their full potential. BUT, if anyone is gonna tune that day, the DJ is hard to beat for consistancy.

As for measuring torque, they measure accelleration of the given mass (roller) and calculate HP over the speed of the roller. Then based on the calculated HP and the RPM of the engine, you can calculate torque. So yes, you can get torque readings.

Good ventilation is an understatement. I am hoping to break 525 RWHP on #2. My gears may hurt me though. We'll just have to wait and see.

So we might get readings that are say 5% low, or something along those lines? 525 would be cool to see Aron. I don't think anyone will come close to that but you never know. I know one thing for sure, my truck is going to be in desperate need of a new turbo once I put that 0 plate in. I am really leaning towards one of Kurt's turbos. They sound like they work good and are very reliable.

Just so I get this straight. The plan is to have a dyno day in Spring Lake Park and skip the BOMB & BBQ at your place, Josh?

If it is a dyno party I will not be down. Don't use me as a pulse indicator. I just dynoed on Saturday.

For the dyno cost make sure it includes a rpm pickup. Some places charge extra to add the rpm pickup as it involves an extra spin of the rollers.

Does this place have the 5k rollers?

Updated email notice heading out to everyone on the list tonight.

Damn! I won't be in town that weekend.

Josh, does the shop with the dyno do diesel work or do they just have a dyno?

Have a good time.

Hey Josh,

Count me in, I have never dyno'ed my truck and am really interested as to what my #'s are. Do you have directions to the dyno shop or is everyone going to meet at your place and "cruise" over there as a group:D . and if so what time?

Best regards,

Kurt.

The Dyno shop I found I'm just becomming familiar with. I was talking with one of the guys I work with and he told me they might have the optical pick up. SO... . I called them and talked to the owner of the shop. I don't know that they do much Diesel work, but he seemed very willing to have us come in. He also was open to us Bombing there. He said he hasn't seen any big power out of a diesel before. I said I'll see what I can do to change that. So it's also a Bombing session. As for the size of the rollers, I'm not sure. I'll try and find out. One of these days I'm going to stop in and chat with him a bit more extensivly. The one thing he mentioned was he can't dyno a 4 door. Extended cab yes, 4 door no. Not enough room on the dyno.

Once I've been there I'll make up a set of directions.

Josh

Hmm;

It wouldn't be the first time everyone on the dyno gets to see my blind side. I had my butt in the air most of the time at the last Goerend's Dyno Day.

I've revised family travel plans to the Twin Cities and this weekend is still open. If I get my winterizing on the house finished it may work out.

I've got standing promises to do governor springs with Jeff H and some fine tuning with (Denny) Christen sometime this year.

edit:

No 4 doors? Well that probably doesn't mean the current Dodge pathetic 3 (2 + ½ + ½ ) door is excluded?

I'm going to find out all the details on the 4 door issue. He said no 4 doors. I kinda wonder if he ment the Chev and Fords since Dodge never really made a true "4 door" till this year.
