Competition Buck diesel event in Lancaster?

as long as the weather cooperates in Bryce Canyon it's fun ... last year it started to look pretty dark, so we didn't take our chances on getting stuck in the canyon while hail/rain/thunder would 'drown' us :-laf

but dang the scenery is just great

Camp in the mountains

If you come to Moab in the summer time (103 at the airport today) it is a bit like a hair dryer at times. If you like primitive camping I recommend heading up to the Lasal mountains. There are a number of small lakes with primitive camp areas as well as a couple on national forest land that have regular campgrounds. You can drive 30 miles and lose 30 degrees. You can then drop down and play in the furnace. I agree with the spring and fall recommendation. Hey, this September come with the RCC crowd and lets drive a few trails with our CTD trucks. Mine should be alive by then.

I managed to leave NM early and swing by Moab for two days just to get a taste. Well I will be back to spend more time.

My son and I rode the bikes on the single track trails just north of Arches national park. Copper ridge, And Soverine system I think it was. We inadvertently got into the park boundary but tiptoed out the way we came in. Not to technical but very interesting. We rode in the mornings and wheeled in the afternoons.

We went to Gemini bridges and Bull Canyon. on thursday and on friday we went to the top of the world. You really have to see it yourself to believe. I only "tapped lightly" my front diff box once so I was pleased with how well my Yacht crawled. The temps were OK. Nothing like it is at home now. 112* yesterday.

Yes I'd like to plan a september trip and take the trucks out for more challenging rides and meet some new friends. So post up between now and then and we'll get it going.

Rebel Ram, red rocks are contagious. :) Don't forget about the Maze, Land of Standing Rocks/Dollhouse for a real back country experience in Canyonlands. :)

Canyon Lands ROCKS! I will be going back to Utah hopefully in September of 07! I will keep you all posted, but another site I moderate is planning a fairly large group trip in September next year!

Bjones is right about the Maze. While the wheeling is not as glamorous or as hardcore as it is on the other side of the river it is much more remote, much less people and imho much more fun. One of the best campsites I have ever used anywhere was the Golden Stairs site over there. However you must also be much more prepared as it could take a couple days just to walk out. You will want to get reservations to camp as there are only about 10 or so official vehicle campsites in the entire area (in the maze proper) and dont forget your porta potti as they wont let you in without one if vehicle camping. 100 miles or so from Hans Flat ranger station(which is already 30-35 miles off highway pavement) back to pavement down at Hite by Lake Powell.
