Off Roading Moab with my truck - what trails?

I'm going to be around Moab over the holidays, and I'd like to do some offroading, but I don't know what trails would be good (read: not really bad) for my truck.



Although my sig has most of the description, I have since added 305/65-17 E Pro Comp Xterrain tires.



Any suggestions?

I would say easier ones, like hell's revenge, etc.



You can get books in Moab that have the trail rating on them, that would be the best way.





Go down to the 4x4 ATV/Hummer tours place in town, and ask for Pepper. He's a big dude. Tell him Nate from Mtn Home, Idaho sent you and he will be able to help you out.

An easy one is from up in Island in the Sky district of the Canyonlands is the Schaeffer Trail it drops down the side of escarpment and runs underneath Dead Horse Point along the river then past the potash evap ponds then on to the river road to Moab 3 hours or so and very easy. Another relatively easy one is Lockhart basin- take Kane Creek rd (turn right at Mcdonalds) and follow that all the way to the Needles District of the Canyonlands (50+miles). Go over Hurrah pass and then down and through the Chicken Corners area. There is one spot that is a bit tight as you go up a wash but once through that should be no problem. You more or less follow the rim of the canyon at the bottom. You can take pavement back to Moab. Once in the Needles you can do Elephant hill which is also a lot easier than it looks and is an excellent trail scenic wise, once back there you can check out the crack and the devils kitchen campground. I think the Gemini bridges trail is not too bad as well. You can probably find a decent trail book on the web that will give good descriptions such as the one below

Hells revnge is easy but still fun I took my bone stock F-350 crew cab longbed over it with little truoble , Fins and Things would be another good one to try

Gemini Bridges is another great trail, and is not real difficult, yet very pretty, and there are two trails, one that takes you to the bottom of the bridges, and one that takes you to the top of the bridges. It is NORTH WEST of Moab a couple of miles, The trail starts off the highway.

The long wheel base and the turning radius of the Queen Mary, I understand I will be limited on what I can safely do (even though knowing what I should safely do doesn't always stop me from trying more, but I'd prefer to keep the carnage to a minimum).



I hope to also do some mountain biking while I'm there (with long-travel bikes, of course), and for that, I've been reading that Slickrock would be the best trail, due to the cold weather at higher elevations.

I took my 2500 with 35" Toyos and the KORE Pace setup (2-1/2" Lift up front) down three trails.



7-Mile Rim: Fairly easy, one skinny spot and one off-camber spot.

Hell's Revenge: Nice, bypasses around extreem stuff, optional play grounds

Fins'n'things: Fun fun fun!



You'll need a spotter for a lot of stuff to keep you out of trouble. It's also very nice to watch another truck go over some of the stuff first. I went with the Ramcharger Central group in October.
