Bought new in Rock Springs WY. First long trip here to Key West for winter. Now has 7500 miles

On the way here

I noticed what I can best describe as a moaning sound from (I think) the transmission. Passengers

cant hear it. It happens in all fwd gears under slight load and gets louder as truck warms up.

Took to dealer (same guy who

insisted my truck had drum rear brakes!) and they did some software update to transmission and

said "noise is normal". If I were a betting man I'd say it's the torque converter doing

something (my 95" 2500 4x2 auto never did this). Problem is I gotta drive back to WY by way

of NY in May and I don't really want to have it die on the DC beltway with the wife, 2 dogs,

1 cat and a lizard aboard and my 18 foot O/B cat behind. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Larry

Not sure if your noise is the same as mine, but they sure seem that way. I had a noise that changed with throttle position, sounded like I was coming from the turbo or possible the transmission. The noise was more noticeable and highways speeds. It was also there from when the truck was new. Turned out the the A/C line on the passenger side of the engine compartment was rubbings between the body and the Air filter housing and the sound was transmitting along the length of the line. I even had some wear on the corning of the air filter housing. It may be worth a look at anyway!!

My 2001 2500 auto had a similar sound from the day I picked it up. I kept on my dealer about it and the said it was normal. I to thought it was abnormal and coming from the transmission; 3 weeks ago I got it fixed - it was a bad bearing in the a/c compressor. The compressor locked up and after installing a new one no more moan. I will offer that it made it 86,000 miles before it failed so you might make to WY via NY.

Did they check the oil?

After seeing the topic heading, I was going to write something getting your transmission some lingerie, and a bottle of wine in front of the fireplace. :D

I'll spare you.
