Do any of the TDR members use this oil? (Mobil Delvac 1300 15w-40) I've always used Shell Rotella T which has gone from $28 to $35 for 6gal / case. But just bought a case of this Mobil oil. Any reason pro / con about this oil?

I know a TDR member(no computer--full time RVer) who uses Mobil Delvac in his CTD--no problems. He put close to 100,000 miles on a '97 3500 and traded it for a '01 3500 6 speed and is running it with the Delvac.

My brother runs Delvac in his Freightliner/Detroit 60 Series, John Deere tractors, and his PSD with no problems. He buys the 55 gal drums.

I've been using Mobil Delvac in mine since the first change at 1000 miles. Only have 16K now with no problems with 4K intervals. Doesn't have much of an odor after a change and the local Wal-mart here carries it. I think it is $5. 88/gallon and they seem to sell the heck out of it. I usually check every time I go in and buy some because a lot of times they are sold out.

The CAT oil is blended by Mobil. If Delvac 1300 15w40 is the same, or very close to the CAT DEO 15w40 it is a very good oil.

I have also been running the 1300 series delvac 15-40 in my dodge. We also run it in 7 John Deere tractors and have always had very good success with it. We do however run the 1200 series 15-40 in our 3 Versatile tractors with cummins engines. When we converted one to a new 8. 3 l they recommed the 1200.

They both appear to be about the same in the ratings. We buy in 55 gal barrels. The oil have very little smell and has always treated us well, but I am thinking of changing to amsoil 5w40 for the winter season. I believe the delvac 15-40 is an excellent oil but it is a little thick in the winter.

Do you plan on switching back to the Delvac 15w40 in the summer months?

If so I'd recommend the Delvac 5w40 vs. the Amsoil 5w30. The reason being you will likely have less additive clash when sticking within the same brands of oil.

JMHO,

Ryan

IF you read the comparison wear tests on the Amsoil website, according to their analysis, the Delvac was rated the highest, compared to Rotella and Delo 400 oils...

I have switched from Rotella to the Delvac myself... ;) :D

I have been using the Mobil for 3 - 4 oil changes now (10,000 miles) and seem to like it. But I have noticed the past couple of weeks that since it is getting a little colder here in VT that it takes longer to get the oil pressure up to 75 - 80 pounds in the morning. I agree that it may be due to it being a little thicker. I may change the next time around to a different brand to see if that makes a difference.

I've used Delvac 1300 15W-40 since I've owned my truck. For 3 years and 65,000 miles it has done me well. Can't really say much about other oils as this is the only one I've used. Can't see spending a lot of $$$ on synthetics when I change it every 6k.

Go to price club (Costco) and buy it if you can, $22 a case (4 - 1 gallon containers). I have been using Delvac 1300 Super for the past 7 months - 16k miles. It stinks for the first few hours after a change but other than that no problems.

DEZLPWR...

* $20 a GALLON *?:eek: :confused:

Where the heck do you go to buy it at THAT rediculous price?

It sells for MUCH less at Walmart - and MOST places for that matter... ;) :p :D

And that's what *I* am talking about as well!

Local Walmart sells it for FAR less than that - I bought 3 gallons of it myself for my last oil change, plus an extra gallon for topping off when needed...

NO WAY would *I* ever pay $20 a GALLON for oil - too many cheaper alternatives!;)

Gary, the Delvac 1 is about $21 per gallon here too, even at wally world. It is the full synthetic, group 5 base. Is this the same as what you are talking about? How much is FAR less? I would be very interested to know where to buy it cheaper. Might get the Delo out of the crankcase if I could get Delvac 1 cheap.

Sorry Gary,

I see where you might have gotten confused.

I meant Mobil Delvac 1 in the 5w40 weight, not Delvac 15w40 as my last post may have appeared.

$20/gallon is not a bad price for the Delvac 1. It's around $21/gallon in my area.

Delvac... good!

I've used 15-40 Delvac in the Dodge since new, and in the big truck since I got it(100,000). No problems, good oil.

Cooker - OK, that may be the confusion here - the Delvac 1300 *I* was referring to is the "Delvac 1300 Super", no "1" in it anywhere - and I was also assuming the thread here was referring to the dino-based 1300 Super rather than the synthetic. As I recall, I paid in the vicinity of 8-9 dollars a gallon for the Delvac super 15/40. Now I am wondering if the "Delvac" rererred to on the Amsoil site was the dino or synthetic stuff - tho' they WERE comparing it to the Delo 400 in the same graph...
