Well was shopping at Walmart today..... needed some oil for a friends truck.

I found Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 for $5. 88 gallon

Also found Chevron Delo 400 15w-40 for $6. 17 gallon.

And much to my surprise I saw Valvoline Premium blue!

I bought him the Delo 400 because thats the only one they had 3 gallons of onhand. Both of them say they exceed the CI-4 rating. WIth bigger injectors I might start using one or the other every 3000 miles myself for that price.

Delo

Kat. . you'll probably start another oil tread, however, I'm a little baised as I worked for Chevron for a number of years and use nothing but Delo 400 15-40 year around. I change every 5000-7500 miles including filter, without fail... I don't believe in extended oil intervals, synthentics, oil anaylsis, or fancy filtering systems. . Why waste the extra money for those things, when cheap insurance would be changing oil more frequently. What ever brand of oil you decide on, stick with it, unless in an emergency situation. Petroleum oils break down whether you drive a lot or park it. Diesels require heavy detergent oils for proper lubercation, cleaning , and handlying fuel dilution.

Let the flack begin!!!

Well here goes Steve. I agree 100% with you. Been using Delo exclusively for over 30 years see no benefit to changing. The recent poll here showed much the same.

I’ve looked at quite a bit of oil analysis data and I have to agree that Delo 400 seems to be the best conventional oil available. Chevron uses a very advanced base stock with a higher viscosity index and lower pour point than the others. The most impressive property appears to be oxidation resistance, which suggests that Delo can be run longer or harder than other conventional oils. I’ve seen reports with only 1% allowable oxidation after 3K miles. That’s better than I've seen with full synthetics.

Why not pay the $21/gal and get the REAL stuff... . Mobil Delvac1 5w-40 full synthetic:D Oo. :D I love oil threads!:-laf

I bought 6gal of Delo at Costco for $32. I also didn't waste $5. 00 in diesel driving all over town looking to save 10 cents.

Delo 400 for me.

Of coursem if I worked for Shell I would be running Rotella, or if I worked for ExxonMobil I would run the Delvac. But, I run the Delo 400. :)

Beside, my 401K could use a boost. :(

Delo 400

I try to use Delo 400 in everything, from my Dodge Ram to the Kubota adn the lawnmower.

I have a friend that own a Heavy Equipment Construction Company and he use it for years with great sucess.

Is this an oil thread or a delo cheerleading thread ;)

I agree that delo is one of the best of the dino brands and is what I did use and would use if I went dino. However I am a fan of the synthetics.

Kat, yer not keeping this thing stirred very well... . just doing my part... .

Wasn't really asking which was best, was just stating what I found at Walmart. They also had Rotella but I didn't check the price on it or the Volvoline. Just thought it was interesting, used to be all they had was Rotella.

I currently have Amsoil in the truck, but I think I'll changing it to the Delo 400 and drop my change intervals to 3000 miles or so.

Kat,

Instead of Delo and 3000mi intervals, why not stick with the amsoil and use 7500 intervals.

I agree with not doing any form of extended intervals unless you do the analysis, bypass filters, etc. Dino or Synthetic.

I was only thinking the cost was similar using these intervals, factoring in filters, oil, time, etc. While most seem to push just the cost versus interval thing, I kinda like some of the less advertised benefits. Like lower pour point. Gets quicker oil pressure, during cold winter starts. Also higher flash point. Since it burns at a higher temperature, it offers more protection from coking in the turbo at shutdown, etc.
