You can't go wrong with Mobil products, or for that matter any modern name brand oil. I use it (Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w40) in my truck and tractor @12 month intervals. The truck sees anywhere between 12k up to 15k miles a year, much of it towing. It holds up well confirmed by annual oil analysis. A mixture of operation ranging from 90+ degrees to well below zero degree weather.

I also run the 10w30 in the Land Cruiser, mower, all my small engines, and most recently the Dakota. If you are interested I can post up some links on how to save nearly 50% off the purchase price through sales and manufacturer rebates through Mobil.

According to Mobil's website, it is synthetic, not a blend. Mobil has great rebate deals every year. I purchased 4 gallons of 5w-40 ESP full synthetic for $7.75 a gallon in April of this year after Napa's sale and Mobil's rebate of $11. The extreme rebate was $9 a gallon at the time. Shell, Valvoline, and Mobil have rebates every year. Have paid between $4-8 a gallon for the last ten years for the three mentioned oils by capitalizing on sales, rebates, and price matching. mobil-delvac-extreme-10w-30

Yes, I think there are actually two different Mobil Delvac Extreme 10w-30 oils. One is full synthetic and one is blend. The blend costs more. So which one is the OP asking about:D

Its the same oil, the black bottle has been the same formula since ck4 came out and is being phased out. The silver bottle is the newer formula with different base stocks than the original.

FE is for "fuel economy," under the FA-4 spec. When CK-4 replaced CJ-4 in 2016 they also came out with a separate FA-4 which is only to be used with the new EPA 2017 GHG compliant engines. FA-4 oil carries a lower HTHS than CK-4, so even tho both oils may be a 10w30 the FA-4 oil will still "flow" with less resistance. The whole initiative is aimed at creating better fuel economy to curb GHG emissions and as Mike says the 2 oil specs are NOT compatible with each other.
The FA-4 oils do have similar jugs but will be noted on the front. Compare this to the black CK-4 jug above.

New FA-4 jug, also silver like the new CK-4 formula

Thank you for correcting that JR!!

Yes, I meant to type “FA” instead of “FE”…

It is confusing the hell out of both counter people and customers…along with me apparently…:D:D

And in my description field on our computer system it says “FE” so I brain farted that instead of the “FA” as I ponder it…

I know that Fe is iron, so is good for cast iron blocks??? FE, is for fuel efficiency??? Not familiar with FA, but it may be good for all of us "fuel sucking (swear words)" out there!!! No masking with * anymore!

I agree on the coolant thing. IAOT, HOAT, OAT... Same stuff, same color as others, but VERY different!!!

Post some links sir!!! Anyway I can save a buck I am on it!!!

So, from what I can understand above, the silver FA-4 should be sufficient for my vehicle?

2021 Ram 2500 HD.

NO, you need the API CK-4 spec. More specifically, you need CES (Cummins Engineering Standard) 20086, which will also be on the back of the jug, but the long and short is any API CK-4 oil is what you need.

Mobil runs rebates (usually) twice a year. You just have to sign up and keep an eye out for when the promotion runs, purchase the oil at a participating retailer (there will be a list on Mobils website) and send in for the rebate. Info here, notice the spring rebate is over, be looking for a fall rebate coming soon.

https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/promotions/cvl-spring-rebate-2021

You can take this a step further by price shopping at the participating retailers and buy when they have a sale. Some retailers will even price match.
