I think Mobil Delvac 1300 is dino oil. Should be very similar in quality with the Chevron Delo. I have used both without any worries. Others swear by Shell Rotella. Product Data sheets are available on company websites. The additive packages are propreitary, so this info will not likely be available to consumers. Note: I recently posted some info in this forum under the title "Delvac Product Changes".

Delo is a traditional oil and Delvac is a full synthetic. Should reflect in the price also.

Delvac 1300 is not a synthetic, buddy uses it in his duralax all the time and I've never seen anything on the jugs saying anything about being a synthetc.

They both are conventional motor oils & have to meet or exceed minimum standards. Delo-400's previous formulation (CI-4+) was very popular due to the addition of Moly & Boron into the additive package. Made it a very robust oil. Delo is, also, pretty easy to find.

For many, the jury is still out regarding the newest formulations (CJ-4) of all the oils. Some have suggested that they are not as strong as the previous formulation.

I called Chevron & was told by one of their engineers that the CJ-4 is a better quality oil than the CI-4+ but, you have to remember that he was trying to promote & build confidence in his latest product.

Some of the used oil analysis's are coming back with good reports with the CJ-4 so, my guess is that it will be a good product. However, I stockpiled 5 cases of the old CI-4+, just in case.

If you are not going to extend your oil drain intervals, you should be fine using any of the name-brand products (Shell, Chevron, Mobil, etc. ).

TDR kinda had Shell and Mobil at the lower end of the list. Volvoline was more to the top. Price about the same. So I was just wondering how Delo 400 (Chevron) would come in. Maybe next issue TDR we will find out. :)

An oil thread.

Delvac 1300 is as good as "ANY" oil in the 15w-40 range. To even suggest otherwise is pandering without all the facts. go to the site Bob is the oil guy, and read the results yourself. Delo 400 and Delvac 1300 are as good or better then any other Petrol base oil for Diesel engines.

I'm using Mobil 1 "Turbo Diesel Formula" in mine, I think it's Delvac re-labeled. Love it so far, definitely quieter.

That's the 5w-40 synth. Anything that includes the "1" in Mobile's product line is synthetic.

The 1300 is about as good of an oil as you'll find.
