Mobile 1 75-90 Gear lube

I'm using it. Works fine and is easy to find. It meets the spec for the AA gears.

i'd use it if i could get my hands on it. so i'll probably put in castrol synth. 75w90...

... and i need to do that sometime soon too for front and rear. is the front gasket reuseable like the rear one is??

Yes, the front is same type of gasket as the rear.

I've got 40K using the Mobil 1 75-90. Almost time to change again. Axle temps stay lower then factory, Royal Purple or Lucas.

I'm using it as well, at about 15K ( I now have about 45K) I put the Mag-hytech rear dif. cover on & the Mobil1 lube, I monitor the temp. , it runs real cool, it rarely goes over 100 deg. s empty... when I'm towing it rarely goes over 180 even on steep grades.

Gear Lube

I had planned on using the Mobil 1 gear oil, but ended up with the Castrol Syntec full syn 75w-90 was'nt able to find the Mobil 1 at that time available for me. The Castrol also has the GL-5 rating that Dodge is calling for. I believe your good to go with any of the gear lubes as long as it falls with in DC's GL-5 specs. Got about 9K on Castrol with no issues yet.

I'm also using Mobil 1 gear lube front and rear with no problems. Was using the amsoil series 2000 gear lube and had noise going around slow corners.

Yep, I had issues with the AMSOIL as well. Was grinding on corners w/ the horse trailer. Someone on here said it was because the AMSOIL already has the LS additive in it??? Not good for the AA Axle. I think AMSOIL is great stuff, just not for my truck I guess.

Ditto on the Mobil 1 75W90. The only thing I noticed is it predicted winter when the rear pinion seal stopped weeping. The weep then returns in the spring. Out of curiousity, what lube weight does GM recommend for their trucks with AAM axles?

Thanks Jsteiger. It's not really a project per say - that's just my storage/dispensing setup. I buy commercially produced b100. Love running it though!



As far as LS additive in amsoil causing the noise - that's hard to say. ALL gear lubes contain a certain amount of 'ls additive,' AAM and dodge just dont recommend adding any additional amounts. Not sure exactly why the amsoil causes some of us problems, but it's disappointing. Either way, the amsoil stuff stinks to high heaven and the Mobil doesn't, which is a small bonus =]

Two questions from your pictures, how many gallons in the fuel tank/toolbox and is there any type of heat sheilding required on the oil line (right above the exhaust manifold)?

MA - I don't want to hijack this thread but real quick - tank tool is 51 gals. As far as heat shielding on the oil line - I'm assuming you mean for the dual bypass setup and the answer is no, they are fine, they don't come that close.

In my Corvette, I had all sorts of limited slip problems with Amsoil 2000 no matter how much additive I used. I replaced it with Amsoil Racing gear oil and have had no problems since then.

Tried Wally Mart for the Mobil1. they didn't have it but had their own brand of GL5 full synthetic for eight bucks a quart. I used that. Now I'm draining it and putting in Valvoline syntehtic GL5. Turns out I filled it with 75-140 instead of 75-90! Doh! :{
