So after a 4 hour drive there and 4. 25 hours back, I now have a stage one modded CP3 by Floor-It diesel.

Boy, where do I start?

First heres a few runs after it was installed:

This was quite a learning experience in that John and Scott told me that I need 40psi at the inlet of the Cp3, and preferably a 150gph pump.

ME? I have a 95gph FASS (pump only) - Not good as we would find out later

So we baselined the truck at 520hp, About right with the weather, Colder weather 4 months earlier netted a 524. - I go and have lunch and return to a ready to dyno truck with Modded CP3 on and ready.

I admit, even thought I KNEW I did not have the right fuel pressure, I had high hopes. Well the best we could muster out was 522hp...

AHH, I know what your thinking... 2hp ?!?

But upon closer inspection of the dyno graph you can see that I actaully picked up OVER 100hp from 2200-2500 rpms. So we broke out the fuel pressure gauge to figure this out... Well John and Scott were right, 95pgh just does not cut it.

At Idle I have about 22psi - and it holds 20psi right about till 2000rpms. Then drops to 16ish, then about 2500 - drops to hp-robbing 6psi -- RIGHT WHEN the CP3 needs it the MOST!

the 150gph will be on by april 1st for the STL dyno day. We will shoot for some bigger numbers there.

SOME OTHER NOTES:

1) interesting I got 18mpg there, BUT managed 20. 6 mpg on the way back  -- Fluke maybe?

2) boost and EGT are lower on regular cruising speeds. (not alot, but noticable)

3) Spool-up is way better. I can really tell the extra mid-range - I used to feel the rail drain and then recover. Not anymore, Just pulls hard and keep pulling till about 2600 then starts to loose PSI at the cp3 inlet

so there you have it, 150gph pumps are needed, who'da thought?

…. and at the same time discouraging. Definitely did not want to go back to a noisy 150gph FASS. :(

THe other thought is to take my current 95gph pump up to 30-40psi...

I will talk to Brad at DPP/FASS and see how easy that is

Tom, you didn't have a fuel pressure gauge in your truck??

uhh,,umm... well... no

I know, i know... But I didn'y really ever get time to get around to getting on in ;)

Best get one now!

ha ha. I had to live and learn also. LOL :D When my 03 was popping with the TST on, Mark said I was running out of fuel. I said no way, I am running a pusher pump kit. He said how much pressure do you have , I replied, I do not have a gauge. At that point, he suggested I get a gauge ASAP. He ended up being right. :D

So the Modded CP3 needs 40 psi at the inlet. So does that mean you could run a fuel injection type fuel pump like the A2000(Ithink thats the right part #) pump by Aeromotive without regualting it? Will the seals handle that kind of pressure? Where do I buy one of the Modded pumps? Prices? Is there any mods that need to be done to the fuel rail?

So, which fuel pump do you run?

I am not sure.

Best to call Floor-it diesel and ask. As long as it is 40psi with 150gph, that should do it

You can buy this and the other stages of CP3 mods at:

Floor-it Diesel

NADP

Industrial Injection

NGM Diesel

I think thats it, pricing depends on what you want, etc

Probably time for a new clutch soon too! At those points at 2450 rpm on your graph you went from ~790 ft-lbs to ~1040 ft-lbs torque!!! Did you happen to measure rail pressure?

When you did your pre-modded CP3 dyno what TST/EZ settings did you dyno at?

Rpm Rpm Rpm

These CP3 mods look good.....

What is being done thus far about RPM issues? when do you expect to see 4000-4500rpm? Will these pumps work well at these RPM's in theory?

Tomeygun, I think what is happening is this. The CP3 has its own lift pump that needs to pump 80-180 psi, and that is where the cp3 regulates rail pressure, according to the dodge book.

If they enlarged the high pressure section, but not the lift pump section, I can see you needing to force extra fuel thru the first stage of the pump. That pump probably looses more than 6 psi at that flow rate, so you compensate with a bigger FASS.

I read that the 07 trucks will use a larger cp3.

Should just be a spring swap with a couple of washers. Well, I'm hopeful, so definitely let us know what they say. It looks like an upgrade of some kind is in my future. If the 95gph FASS can’t keep up with a 20lb spring, I just don’t see raising pressure to 40 helping it keep up any better. Maybe last a split second longer before it drops, but you would think it would still drop to the same level and wouldn’t be a "fix" per say.

haha, your not kidding, the new clutch is in the works. Althought this one did not slip, it will on the street I bet...

We did not measure rail pressure, so I intend to grab a DRB from work and ride with it bit to see if I am pulling high PSI with everyday driving, see if thats why I seemed to have gotten better mileage

Both modded and stock, level 8x8 was the best (EZ-2)

I am currently trying out the Walbro 392 pump that is being discussed on a few other boards. I figured for about $100 I would give it a try. It sure is quiet. :D You can hardly hear it running.

We have addressed the lift pump section as well as the high pressure section of these pumps. We have also said from the begining that 40psi at the inlet and 150gph is the minimum required for this pump. If you are not feeding the CP3 with this volume and pressure you will not see the full potential of the pump. Thank You to every one for your interest in these pumps.
