Anyone ever modify the center support bearing mount so that an off the shelf center bearing assy can be used?

Just like this thread all the center supports have "outside ears" and will not bolt up to the exist center support mount. The CarQuest assy has the correct bearing ID (1. 575) and the rubber is much wider that stock. Plus it is in stock and only $35. Only problem is the assy is not as tall and the mounting ears are too wide to bolt up.

My thought was to fab up an extension (or drop bracket) from some 1. 5" square tube to mount the bearing to. Any thoughts on this?

I don't see the need. I got one from Carquest once and just popped the rubber/bearing out and put them in my OE housing. I have read that you can buy the correct one from Napa complete.

Wish I could do that, however when the bearing failed, it locked up and destroyed / melted the rubber bushing part.

No NAPA near me either.
