Anyone besides ATS modified there cp3? I am getting ready to pull mine off and have it opened up a bit but I am nervous because it is R&D on our part, so I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it and with what kind of success. Thanks, Mike

If you're going to tear into a CP-3, please take pics and post them!! I'm particularly interested in the way the fuel control actuator works.

I always thought the greatest restriction between the pump and injectors was the fuel rail. Wouldn't it make more sense to try BOMBing that first for improved fuel delivery?

I really do not think that there is any way to modify the rail most likely you would just have to engineer a new one but I am not sure; I will look at what we can do with the rail when the cp3 is off, and if there is something we can do trust me it will be tried... It would be less scary if this stuff was not so damn expensive

I have a spare rail I can let go at a reasonable price if you want to tinker with it, say $140 shipped (it is a heavy sucker) without the relief valve and pressure sensor. Can include those for a little extra. They came off a totaled 04. 5. I don’t see myself needing it anytime soon and once you see the inside of one, there doesn’t seem to be much you could do with it except maybe hone it out a little. If you could plumb in two rails, one feeding the front three and one feeding the back three, well that would be a pretty sight that may provide a decent benefit in the 1/4 mile as rail pressures wouldn't be suck down as fast.

If you can make it work, modifying the CP3 to provide more fuel would probably make pretty significant gains and would be a better approach than messing with the rail itself. As you know, at WOT power actually goes down as rail pressures drop below a certain point (seems I remember 18K psi, or was it 14K psi  ), which is very easy to do with the TST cranked up. The CP3 just can’t provide enough fuel fast enough to keep up with what the TST is calling for when set to kill. If you could just get it to flow enough to keep up with demand…. . man you probably will be surprised at the amount of power the TST can make, especially the twins version cranked up beyond level 5/5.

Keep us updated with your progress.

If once could bore the rail to a slightly larger diameter that would be the ticket, even 1-2mm should be quite an improvement. But obviously safety is the key, being it has to contain nearly 30,000 psi, and there probably isn't a lot of material you can remove without compromising it.

making the rail larger would only add X amount of time before the pump could not replenish again. having two inlets would probably help. the passages on the pump are very small, about an 1/8th of an inch or less in places.

Is there anywhere to get them rebuilt

Is there anywhere to get the CP3 rebuilt ? I thought I had an injector problem but I just installed F1 injectors and I still have a slight knock(tick) at idle and when I am at very light throttle. I wondering if my truck is just not getting enough fuel or my fuel pressure at the injectors is low during those conditions. My truck is know where as quite as it used to be and the dealeships aren't really helping because my warranty ends in about 1500 miles. Thanks guys.

i can have it rebuilt for you pm me for pricing, also you may want to check your relief valve---it will cause those same symtoms :D
