Modifying EAZ-Lift Sway Control

We are seriously considering purchasing a 1996 26' Nomad Travel Trailer. The asking price is 5500. 00. The TT comes with a EAZ-Lift sway control and weight distribution hitch. Problem is the hitch is mounted on a straight shaft with no drop. I need to lower the hitch about 4-5" to get the trailer level behind the truck. I am considering having a machine shop cut the shaft and add a shaft that drops 4". Anybody see any problems with this? As well are the Nomads pretty decent trailers?
