A friend asked that I post this question. He has a 2002, 4X4, 5spd, 3500, std cab, flat bed, stock and is getting 15 MPG at about 8K miles.

"When you get this, will you post something on TDR requesting all types of modifications that can be made to a 24V engine to increase Mileage and how much increase each modification made. Examples, Boxes, exhaust, air intakes... ... %, or MPG increase per mod. "

Thanks,

Tom C

You didn't say what axle ratio he has or how fast he drive's, but I'd be safe saying 275's and a lighter right foot would be the most he's gonna do to boost mpg.

A lot of guys have reported a gain of 1-2 MPG with 275 injectors. I have used only larger injectors and LOST fuel economy. Guys have reported that the EZ added 1-1. 5 MPG, I used an EZ and LOST 1 MPG. I added a VA and gained 1. 5 MPG. Guys with the EZ AND the 275s have only reported a 1-1. 5 MPG gain.

Good synthetic lubes in both axles and the T-Case will add 1-2 MPG, depending on the temps. The colder it gets the more they will add.

Run the tires at max inflation. Keep the airdam on the front, if he does not have the airdam buy one. No grillguards or bugshields either.

Air intake and exhuast mods have made gains according to others, but they have not for me.

If he is looking for more than 2 MPG he is out of luck, it just is not going to happen without a cam or a compression raise.

Good points LSMITH. I forgot to mention synthetics and tire inflation. Size too, tall and skinny is better. Hiway tread is better than mudders. I probably lost . 5mpg with 315's, but they sure looked good.
