When I turn the ignition switch to the start position, there is a split second delay before the starter engages. I have never experienced this on any other vehicle... ... ... ... ...

Is this something normal for the 6. 7 trucks?

No worries... ... ... ... ... ... all the computers are just discussing what they should do ;)

Agreed ^^^

My'09 does it too...

Turn the key too quick and I end up waiting until the computer reads the chip (that is embedded in the key), then it determines IF the grid heater should kick on first (after being plugged in all day) or not, AND the battery voltage IS up to par... It will start to crank over a few seconds later...

Pretty much only two ways to avoid the "delay" is to: plug in and wait for the security light to go out, or wait for the grid heater AND security lights to go out and the delay will be reduced, but not un-noticeable to someone used to jumping in and turning the key in an older diesel truck or a gasser.

Just wait to see what fits a weak battery will cause... Normal brightness of interior lights, normal voltage, PLENTY of amps to start, BUT barely enough to give it a go... You get only a few brief engagements of the starter and end up popping the hood for a jump with no warning!!

Both my 08 and my 2010 do it. I thought it was a problem when we first got the 08, had it to the dealer, said nothing wrong.

So what y'all are saying is there is an electronic committee under the hood that votes every time I ask it to do something? I hope I never have to find out what happens when the vote is not unanimous.

Not sure about your 09, but on my '10, you do not have to hold the key on to start. All thats required is a quick 1sec tap of the 'start' detent, then release, and the computer takes care of the starting. Kinda nice to get your hands back to doin somethin else...
