This morning on my way into work I was coming up on some traffic, I began to apply my brakes, when I was close to stopped it sounded like I was driving a truck with a manual transmission and I was braking without putting in the clutch. I quickly put it into neutral and it was like I put the clutch in.
This happened a 2nd time during the same commute. Can anybody undo the knot in my stomach. Auto trans trouble, damnit.
Thanks,
Steve

Skounds like your torqe converter is not unlocking. Mine does that once in awhile when I am traveling in 4th od on the highway and slow down with my exhaust brake switch on. I have a BD exhaust brake installed and when the switch is in the on mode it is supposed to dissengage at 25 mph. I have to remember to hit the od lock out switch or turn off the e-brake before I slow down too
slow. If you have installed a mystery switch it would probably do the same thing.

David,
Thanks for the input.
My truck is stock except for the fuel filter easy access add on and also a K&N air filter.
I was thinking it was the TC not unlocking.
I checked my fluid level (operating temperature, in park, running), level good, looks and smells fine.
If the wife drives it and she doesn't think to put it in neutral I'm thinking it will stall out instead of destroy itself.

Steve,

I think I would look for a short in the wire to the lockup solenoid. If it has a bare spot on it then it would act like that. It also might be the solenoid itself sticking. If course, you machine is a lot later than mine. The computer may have a problem.

Joe,
Thanks.
I have the manual, of course it's at home right now.
So I'll check those few things and keep my fingers crossed. I'm building a house right now and any added expenses are not welcome.

CHECK THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL WITH THE SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL!!!!
Otherwise it won't read right.
