Need Some PTO-Driven Generator Advice

neon tried to edge me out

Any of you out there ever make moonshine??

Any of you ever make it for a living??

If you make it for fun, or just know how, what would be a simple stovetop method for doing it? I had some real good stuff supplied by a sheriff about 15 years ago. This was in Tennessee.

P. S. I would rather keep my eyesight.

The guys who used an old radiator to condense the "steam" were the ones who ended up poisoning themselves, because of the Ethlene Glycol, also I guess if they accidently happened to make wood alcohol instead of drinkin' alcohol. My Uncle used to make it, when I was a little tyke, so I don't remember much except they called it "White Mule" cause of it's kick!

I made beer a few times back in the 1970's. I bottled very little of it because I just couldn't keep my hands off it while it was fermenting. :D

We used to make it. By we, I'm talking my grandaddy. All I did was keep the fire going. Stuff smelled terrible because it was mainly either corn or wheat/rye that was fermented. The best stuff was the sour mash. We would cook it off in a big stainless pot with a cover like you would find in a large cooking facility like a prison or aircraft carrier. The problem with doing it stovetop is that you will only get a small amount that way. Even with the large vat we had we could only get about a gallon per cookoff. It will make your house smell really bad (the mash) and the fumes can be dangerous. They are highly flammable you know. Do it outside.

Oh, yeah, don't bring it to a boil. Otherwise you get a lot of water vapor in your condensate. All you want is the alcohol.

As teenagers, we'd get some cheap stuff (40 proof or less) and slowly cook it off in the garage. It would produce about a cupfull of stuff that would knock you on your a**.

Alky starts to boil off at 170 degrees. As the Alky boils off, the temp will rise. So use a thermometer and keep the boil below (I'm guessing) about 200 degrees, and you'll get some good stuff.

Grappa.

My cousin used to make Grappa. It was distilled from the bottoms of the wine crocks. Man, this stuff would curl your toes. I used to drink anything. And didn't go blind, just did it till I needed glasses?
