Thanks, TDR Staff

Off to Gatlinburg!

2005 MTPA pulls and rules.

Whoa!

I just got bit of an apology and a lot of explanation from Chris Stoner.

Let me boil it down a little (and try not to distort it. )

The ploy was to see if it was a Dodge/ford thing, since it was all fords at Belvidere. The "loud mouth" ford guy at Belvidere was not a Stoner, and he was the one that p1ssed Jack off. (Chris, was it the black dually guy with the custom lettering on the tailgate? Jack mentioned him as well. ) Chris, Mike, and Glenn are not planning on pulling MTPA, because of the safety rules that they feel are part of the gasser truck conspiracy to keep us out. And I agree, they ain't none too happy about us diesel trucks--BUT we ARE the coming thing, fans and promotors know that. ;) And I will pull MTPA, because it's local and they can't keep us out forever.

And also Chris wants to point out that they run straight #2 unless it's an "open" class.

Finally, they are interested in setting up a truck pull--which has already been kicked around by Barry and Bean and Me and others. Ivy Bluff will be the place, time will be 2006. I don't think Barry is going to do anything any sooner due to new, more important commitments.

Where else you going to find a 400'+ track?

Well I appreciate everything your doing Wade, but I will not be back to Mooretown.

I am going to see about getting a kill switch, and I would like to hear about how to do a H-B cover. I will probably only try and pull @ Lebanon if they will let us though. Its just to much BS to pull right here @ home.

Wade, let me know when you are going to look at Barry's truck. I will see what I can do to fab something up fairly easily. I have access to all sorts of metals and metalworking toys. I can get 3-4 fabbed up for you pulling guys. I assume Wade, Mark, & Meacham will need one. Will make one for myself as you never know when I might want to have a sled behind my truck :D .....

Holedigger, you need one? Anyone else might be pulling?

Meacham, going to talk to Peter @ SBC in the next couple of days. Want to get the new clutch before going to IRP. Old one is making a noise like a spring or two is broken.

Appreciate that Jay, however I don't think Meacham will be needing one. The Race Truck sits almost as low as a 2wd S10 now-a-days! :-laf

It's getting harder and harder for a "street" truck to pull anywhere... . I dont' think they'll let them pull at lebanon either... .

Really putting a damper on the sport.

Gap, i agree. but a couple of years ago in kentucky. there was a hot farm class where the tractor was turning way more rpm's than it was rated for and the clutch exploded. killed a man when the clutch took his head off. that was when the huge crack down on pulling vehicles without any safety equipment came. the harmonic balancer rule is retarded. the insurance companies don't like to get sued. some of the rules are a little overkill i think. but what else can you do if you wanna pull? later, nick

Lebanon is an MTPA pull. If you have the two safety items, the MTPA insurance will cover you. The Lebanon Fair board will be the ones to ask. And I can't see them saying no if MTPA is providing insurance coverage.

Everything pulling MTPA has a HB cover of some sort.

Thanks Jay, I'll start on a design here in a day or two. Wonder what happened to that clutch? :-laf Terry might want one. Hell, think how much you can charge for them at MTPA pulls when somebody shows up without one. That and some switch set-ups. ;)

I'll be pulling at Mooretown from now on. I'll not get caught out like that again. Somebody contact the Lebanon Fair folks and see what they have to say. If they want to provide blanket coverage for any street vehicle, then that'll take the ball off Jack. And we can start drumming up trucks.

Wade, I will be around most of the week. You've got my number. We can get together Sunday if you are back from the K-vegas pull. You guys be sure to get some good video of the big boys pulling at K-vegas.

Heck, can't figure out what is wrong with that clutch. It was doing fine a couple of months ago. Must be a gremlin or something.

What if you dont have a shut off solenoid anymore? Had 2 go out on me and now there is a choke cable 11$.

Others will correct me if'n I'm wrong..... I believe you could use an air shutoff

HERE'S that topic on another forum

most air shut off (i. e. air flappers) will not completely kill a motor. they will slow it down to idle. but not kill it. the airshut off is more for if the motor is trying to run away it will stop it.

Oh, that's good to know. I would be PO'd with a capital "P" if I went to MTPA with and air shut-off and failed tech.

But then I'd know just exactly how it worked before I got there. ;)

Fuel it is. Now, anybody got a OEM solenoid they don't need? Heck it might be cheaper to run the aftermarket stuff. Don't have no prices yet, except the OEM thing is $414 list and available for around $300 from various sources.

I am an industrial electrical maintenance man. I can build the shutoff switch. I guess i will just have to buy another shutoff solenoid. The air shut off probably cost more than the air shut off anyway.
