My 05 did not come with the oem fog lights so I just picked up a Mopar accessory add on fog light kit for $175. Has anyone ever insatlled this kit? There is a lot to it. Apparently the 05 doesn't come with any of the wiring for fogs at all. Have to mount relay and fuse and drill hole in dash for a switch and splice into the lowbeam wire and run an entire harness for the system.

I was thinking of splicing into the park light instead of the low beam so there was the capability to have them on with low and high beams. And I was also going to put the higher lumin bulbs in that Genos has also. and add a bright box.

My 02 didn't come with fogs either but all the wiring was there to just add the lights and plug them in and add the fog style headlight switch.

That kit is BS IMO.

My wife bought it for me also and then I called these guys https://www.dodgeparts.com/index.php/cPath/33_66?osCsid=12515423fd1db692761016e2a0fd695c They hooked me up with a short wiring harness that goes from each light to the prewired from the factory plug that is behind your bumper and a new switch for the dash.

If you have an SLT or Laramie if I remember correctly your truck is prewired and you need the lights, wiring harness and switch. No relay is needed.

Give them a call and they should be able to help you.

Did you return the Mopar kit and go with one from dodgeparts or just keep it and go with the short harness/switch? What was there kit selling for? Sounds like a better deal mine is an SLT. I will look to see if I can find the fog light connector on mine. Where was it on yours?

I kept the kit since it was a christmas present, but I wanted a cleaner install.

The plug is behind the bumper on the drivers side. Look around up there and you should be able to find it.

You could probably return your kit and be in it for about the same or just a hair more, but have a factory install. Call them, I believe they are a dodge dealer in the Seattle area if I remember right.

Thanks::)

I have ordered parts from them before. They are better priced for oem parts than anyplace else. I will give them a call tomorrow. I have only used the internet to order from them in the past.

Will they send just the short harness and switch? The switch that came with the kit requires a hole to be drilled to mount it. It looks like an oem switch. Or is it like the second gens where the switch is part of the headlight switch?

I was looking and I found the factory connector. The harness that came with will work great for other add on lights.

Yes, the extra harness could be used for extra lights somewhere else on the truck if you wanted to order the switch and short harness and wire the new ones in like factory.

There are TWO factory foglight kits...

One for those trucks that were never wired for foglights (the kit he bought describes it since it requires tying into the low beam circuit); and the other is for those trucks wire for foglights...comes with the OE foglight/headlight switch.

If you have an ST, the second kit doesn't do you much good...

Do you have info on the kit for prewired pickups?

Not anymore... I bought the pre-wired kit before I realized it wouldn't work. I returned it for the other kit...

FWIW, I bought my kit on eBay (new in box) for $125 shipped (it was a buy it now type deal)... it was a Dodge dealer that was selling them.

It is on the headlight switch. Turn to turn on headlights and then pull out to turn on fogs.

They will sell you the individual pieces.

I believe this is all you need. Call them, they are very helpful.

Joe

Well I just ordered this set up and returned the one I got from the dealer. This one is a bit cheaper. and I will have a spare harness for another set of lights for when I add an aftermarket front bumper:)Now to order the britebox fogzilla.

use of factory wiring is good, direct wiring with switch & relay is better, IMO.

I have factory fogs, direct switch controlled wiring/lighting is next. PITA wiring yes but, lighting on-demand , better.

I installed that same kit. Took about an hour. I didn't have the factory headlight switch with the fog control but I wouldn't have used it if I did. Now I can use the fogs when I want, not when Dodge thinks I should.

:eek:That is half price of what I just ordered and its the exact same kit. :{. Oh well a guy can't spend all his time looking.

But it would have been nice to find that one sooner.
