Just got off the phone with the parts manager from my local 5-star ... he says that 1-qt and 1-gal containers of Mopar-branded (Delvac?) motor oil for our CTDs had been on backorder since the latter part of December. Mopar is just beginning to release the backorders to my 5-star in Pennzoil bottles ... more specifically, Pennzoil "LongLife Gold" 15W40. He says Mopar will eventually distribute this oil with their name on the bottles.

Anyone know any more on this or have any opinions about Pennzoil LongLife Gold for use in the 5. 9 Cummins?

You might want to go to (bobistheoilguy.com) & check out the diesel oil forum for information on the Pennzoil. Also, the used oil analysis forum.

Um... Why would you pay for the markup for dealer branded oil? Chrysler isnt an oil products company, they slap a label on it and mark it up for their profit and carrying cost. I'm not sure I understand the concern.

Pennzoil conventional I haven't used in years. We used to cut open the empty Pennzoil bottles after someone put it in a car and marvel at all the ash settled to the bottom of the bottle. Not sure if that is still the same, but I'll bet it is. That was for gasser oils, I don't know anything about the diesel stuff. Their new synthetic is a little different story. It's the only mass market synthetic right now that actually uses a high quality synthetic base oil, and it's been rated as one of the best oils for dealing with gasoline, pretty important for carburated engines so I run it in my gasser toy truck (1972 GMC 350 V8). That's my $0. 02 on Pennzoil.

Pennzoil and Quakerstate are the bottom labels in my opinion.

I just don't understand someone using a cheap oil in an expensive motor.

Sometime ago my dad had the engine rebuilt on his Ford F150. Only used Pennzoil with regular interval changes. Massive amounts of sludge buildup.

All i have ever run in my trucks and all of my vehicles has been pennzoil. Dad had an account with pennzoil, so thats what we ran. I have never had any sludge in any of my motors from lawn mowers to high horsepower imports to the CTD. I think regular maintenance and oil change interval are the most important thing here. I have heard about pennzoil being the bottom of the barrel before. I dont buy it and have never seen any evidence of it. Maybe im just lucky. just my . 02
