Our 2013 is at 28,000 trouble free miles. We got a letter from Ram on buying the extended warranty. I am on the fence right now. The plan is to keep this truck till it has about 100,000 miles on it. It tows a large load every time it is started. How many out there have bought the MOPAR extended warranty? How many have had to use it?

I purchased it with my 2010 1/2 ton. It was the max care if I remember correctly. I paid approx $900 for it when I purchased the truck and it took the warranty to 5 years 100k. I used it once for the replacement of both front hub bearings and sway bar end links. $100 deductible and no hassle.

Turns out that the dealer listed "cost" of the repair was just under $1000 so it was a dead wash in theory.

I bought the 7 year 100K at time of purchase for $2,650 I felt it was worth it to have EVERYTHING covered for 7 years 100,000 miles.

Should be a good selling point if sold before 100K.

In all of our 43 years together we never had an extended warranty on anything but we purchased the Mopar Warranty about a month ago for a good price and feel we made the right decision for us. Hugs, Di

Good call! Especially after the luck you had on the last truck.

I just paid $1550 or so for 5/100,000 Chrysler Max Care when I bought my 2015. Never bought extended warranty before but the electronics package on these new trucks scares me.

Thanks but so far, fingers crossed, we have only had one tpms sensor that needed replacing and the slot for our ignition key fob stuck in, leaving a gaping hole day before yesterday. Fortunately, Dutch got his finger in there and started the truck. We called a dealer in Lexington, KY and he told us to drive her in and he'd check things out but he did have the part in stock. When we arrived at a Dodge dealer, he was fiddling around with the hole and the key slot popped back out. Hopefully, it won't happen again.
I think Dutch wanted the MOPAR warranty just because {as an old mechanic} he realized there isn't a lot he can fix on these new trucks. Hugs, Di

I bought the MOPAR Max Care 8 year/120,000 mile warranty last year for about $2K. This was the first extended warranty I ever purchased in my life. Once I got the service manual I realized that about all I could do on this truck is read the codes, change oil and all the filters and wash it! I hope I never need it, but one problem could easily pay for the entire warranty cost.

Extended warranty - buy it!

The facts are that factory parts are outrageously expensive, as are dealer labor charges. If you intend to keep it a while, plan on something breaking. There is a chance that the first thing that breaks may cost less than the extended warranty, but for sure the second time, you're into it for more than the warranty cost. In the last 50k miles on my 2010, I have had the front brake calipers replaced twice, the entire A/C system more or less replaced trying to get it to not freeze up (finally replaced the evaporator under the dash and that fixed it), and most notably, replace the radio/nav unit.

It was in for a service call, and there was an update for the radio. When they went to install it via the dealer update DVD, it bricked the radio (ie, it was dead and gone with no hope of revival). Dodge regional was called-in and finally agreed to replace it - at a cost of $3,800!

Additionally, if you ever sell the truck before the warranty expires, it's a significant value to a private buyer if there is still time/miles left on it.

I will never buy a complex, expensive, new vehicle without the manufactures extended warranty covering as much of the vehicle as I can. And I intend to sell it before it expires :)

If for nothing else, just the peace of mind knowing that things are covered. With all the electronics, visual screens and electric gadgets in these things now I felt it was a wise choice on my part. The question is not if it will break but when. But on the other hand you may own your vehicle for many years and have no issues, the choice is yours.
Me, no worries for 10 years or 120,000 miles bumper to bumper.

We bought the big bad Mopar extended warranty on our new 2015. There are like way too many computer modules in that truck that could go bad and for quite a few years it will not be my problem to pay to fix them.

Mopar only offered the 7/100,000 when I bought my 2013. For all the electronics in the truck I figured it was well worth it. First extended warranty I have bought. I wish I could have gotten a longer one. My wife just got a new Durango, we were able to get a lifetime warranty. It was kind of expensive but we will never have to pay for a repair.

Is it better to buy an extended warranty at the time of new truck purchase or wait until it is offered later when the factory warranty is expiring?

I don't know if it is standard policy but my dealer won't provide alternate transportation on a standard warranty but they do with an extended one.

I have had very good luck in negotiations with the purchase of the extended warranty at the time of purchase. There must be a large markup on the asking price of the warranties. I have had no issue talking the dealer down on the price. Hope you are able to also.
