I have a new 07 2500 4x4 CTD 6spd, 3. 73 regular cab, 160 miles. I want to add an exhaust brake to it at some point and time. I see Mopar offers a Mopar/Jake/cummins exhaust brake part number 82209823. Anyone have any issues with this kit? Is aftermarket better? Would my extended warranty cover the mopar brake? Would an aftermarket brake cause warranty issues/arguments down the road? Also I'll be keeping my truck bone stock till warranties all expire, which will be many years to come.

If you have the 5. 9 engine than the mopar brake will fit your truck and so will the pacbrake C44045... . the pacbrake comes with an electric air compressor and can be used for other items added later... air horns, air bags, filling small tires... etc... there are no problems with warranty issues with pacbrake but it isn't covered by your dodge warranty... . it has its own warranty see..... www.pacbrake.com and look up the C44045. .

I personally think that if you look at the retarding HP specifications of both units you'll find that the pacbrake will give you more retarding hp to lower rpm's than the mopar unit.....

the mopar unit is powered by an engine mounted mechanical vacuum pump... it will cost you a little more... . I can't say if its covered by the extended warranty... you'll have to read the fine print...

There are many dodge dealers that install as an option the pacbrake as well as the mopar brake based on the customers request... .

If you have other specific questions please pm me... . I think this answers your questions...

I have the Cummins approved Jake brake on my 03 that was installed as a dealer option. I am not sure if it is covered under warranty but I believe it is. I have 137k on mine. The only problem I have ever had is that the vaccuum pump stop working at 134k. Can't really complain about that, well past the warranty too. It cost me $89. 10 to get a new pump from Cummins and 15 minutes to install it. The dealer wanted $700. 00 just for the pump. If you opt for the Cummins unit, I would purchase it from a Cummins dealer and have the Dodge dealer install it. You are likely to save some money. Either way these things are great! Good luck.

I purchased the Jacobs unit from a Dodge dealer, and had an independent mechanic install it. I couldn't be happier with it. It's fully under warranty and doesn't violate the truck's warranty. I'm especially glad to hear of Mark's post that his pump lasted 130k miles. I would go with another Jake anyday. I use it all the time, living in an area with lots of ups and downs in the roads. JH

I vote for the Pac Brake, with the Jake you will need a different acc belt and they have been hard to find anywhere but the dealer, and then some parts people can't figure it out. Like has been said, it is nice to have compressed are on the truck, for about the same money

When I bought my 06' the extended warranty applied to the Jacob's EB only if installed before delivery. Bought a Pacbrake recently from www.sourceautomotive.biz. Haven't had time to install.

i love my Jake, although the vacume pump is a little chinsy... i found one CHEAP from cummins and replaced it 37,000 miles after i had it installed. 86 dollars for the vacume pump and 15 min to put it on, a grand for the pump from dodge.

it works great, but i ahve 4. 10 and a 6 speed. i will never own a diesel without an exhaust brake. thats how much i like it. it gives a small bit of a sports car drive to my 2wd dodge. it is GREAT!

i even bough a spare pump to keep with me in case i have my trailer due to the track record of the pumps going out. others have had serious problems with them.

jake brake

I have the Jacobs exhaust brake on my 2005, I installed it when the truck had 12,000 miles and I have 48,000 miles on it now and I have never had a problem. I do agree though, that the pac brake might be a better buy as it provides you with onboard compressed air. The jake hisses when it is engaged, and was irritating at first but now I am used to it. I have not had to replace the accessory belt yet but I know the price tag on it is enough to open your eyes. The only real complaint I would say I have against my jake, and this is being picky, is that the switch, mounted on my gear shift (6-spd) rattles sometimes and given how quiet the cab is it stands out and irritates me. Other than that no complaints at all!

either buy from cummins or dodge. SAME PART #'s. You can buy the jake brake @ a cummins dealer for almost $300 less than the dodge dealer and have the same part #. MSRP from dodge is $1325 for just parts. MSRP from CUMMINS for the same part is $1078.

I personally am going with pacbrake c44047 5 inch remote mount.

I have an '03 with the 6-speed, and the Jacobs/Mopar EB. I bought it from the dealer when the truck was purchased, but the EB was NOT AVAILABLE at the time, due to newly designed Engine. After about 6 weeks of ownership, the EB came in and I installed it myself. I have NEVER had a problem with it, and now have 64,000 on the truck.

This is the second CTD I have owned that has had an EB installed, and I would NEVER go without one!
