I think I asked this and never got an answer. Myabe nobody knows but that sure would suprise me from this group. I want to replace 6 speed and rear end oil with synthetic!!! I understand that MOPAR is big $$$$'s. Since Mopar does not drill for oil, I don't think, does anyone know what brand they use with the MOPAR label? Otherwise I suppose AMSOIL is the ticket for both with no friction modifier in rearend. I will be towing and feel synthetic is the way to go specially here in Arizona!!!

Mopar getes about $20 / QT.

Texico MTX for the 6 speed,It can be ordered in 5 gal buckets but it is not listed in there catalog: dealer has to call ware house to get it, about $55. I use Valvoline 75 - 90 synthetic gear lube in the diff's, from NAPA at about $10 / QT. You might find it cheaper at Checker or Auto Zone.

Nutter, Did you add friction modifier to that oil for the diff? Mine was making that undescribable noise when making turns, I changed the oil to Mobil synthetic and added 1/2 pint of friction modifer... no more funny noise! The Mobil oil is GL5 and is listed as a limited slip oil... I added the modifier anyway.

1/2 of a 4 oz bottle, I wasn't sure so I started with a little and would add more if needed. probably did't need any. The ls locks up real nice. they both spin together in sand, rain, mud and snow. 1/2 on dry or traction pulls right out loaded or mt.

If you get too much modifier then the ls clutches will slip and then you have no ls.

Bob, went to dealer and asked about who they get their oils from. Tech said that most oils are bid contract every year or two. The dealer oil for your 6 speed is $10. 50 plus tax at the dealer. Their 75/140 synthetic gear oil is $19. 00 a quart. You can get Amsoil series 2000 75/140 for about $12. 00 a quart to include shipping... ... ... ... ... ... ... Pete

Thanks Pete will probably go with AMSOIL as probably better and less costly. Don't think they can prove a void warranty for not using Texico without analysis if something should go wrong with the 6-speed in trany or rear-end

I doubt if the MTX is bid out, because other than Texaco, I have not been able to come up with an exact match. I suspect both GM and DC have Texaco bottle it for them, with there being only the one supplier.

What Amsoil would you run, should you decide to go that route? I have a bottle of the GM MTX right here. They call it SAE 75W, API GL3, and the number on the bottle is the GM spec on the Texaco data sheet for this oil.

I will stick with the spec, as I have said before, it has done good by my GM transaxle for 212K with 30K drains. Can't be all that bad of oil.

OTOH, in the axles, I will run Amsoil, because they have an oil that meets DC's spec.

Shelby

I don't know that I would run anything other than the dealers oil in my transmission. Mainly for warranty issues, but I do run the Amsoil in the diff as the type of oil in the diff. is not an issue when dealing with the warranty. I just had my transmission serviced at the dealers with their fluid... ... ... . Pete

BOB,do your truck a big big favor, use chevron dello 400 15/40 ,no additive needed you will really like the performance. I get mine from either wal-mart or cosco

best of luck, JDMJOE/ JMoglia

I think bottom line with Arizona temps and towing synthetic is the way to go. DC even recommends change to synthetic I just don't know what they sell in the MOPAR bottle.

Shelby & Pete~Texico MTX is not synthetic is it? I did not think so or would use in a second in the trany. Not sure what AMSOIL to run in Trany or fact what other Synthetic but AMSOIL seems to be good price and quality.

Joe~I run Dello engine oil and it is quality not doubt. Not sure about their oil for trany and rearend though.

OH there are so many good choices and some great input. Decisions, decisons and really onlyu thing I am sure is synthetic is the way to go trany and rearend. I know why not use synthetic in engine too? Well not broke in yet 16K miles with little towing. Who knows maybe later.

Thanks all your all great. By the way hope to get gauges and A pillar in July sometime. Want 3 seperate gauges, boost, Pyro, fuel pressure. Also mechanicle not digital all personal preferance for lots of reasons. Sorry got off subject!!!!!

Sorry long post!!!!!!!!!

Pete ~ noted your concern and thank you. I have gotten just as many who say change but I understand and maybe your right. Use DC synthetic oil for transmission and different for rear. Again thanks.
