People here have had good luck with the MOPAR starter, I did not. I haven't heard about the fires. I'll give my dealer a call today to see if they heard anything.
The MOPAR unit is made by Code Alarm. The problem I had was when it was below 20F the engine would crank but not start and then leave the ignition on (fan running, parking lights, etc. ) I called Code Alarm in MI and they instructed me how to re-learn the tach setting. That worked. The problem then became that when the temp was above about 30F the starter would grind. Not pretty. I called Code Alarm and they said to re-learn the tach at the new temperature. So I asked the engineer, "So when I leave for work I re-learn the tach for the morning temperature, and when I leave work I re-learn the tach for the afternoon temperature?" He said, "yeah, that sounds like what you're going to have to do. " The dealer (who installed it) took it back and gave me a refund. Also, the MOPAR unit requires a separate remote so if you have to have two remotes on your keychain if you have a factory remote.
I got an ultrastart. Its remote replaces the factory one and does all the Dodge things plus activate the remote. It also has an idle mode, turbo cool down mode, 2000 ft. range, etc. I have been using it this winter no problems. BTW, cheaper than the MOPAR unit as well.
