More advice on 19.5 tires please

Ok, after months of going over the Ricksons site and numbers up and down... . I just did my taxes and the return will fund this purchase and I need alittle more advice.



I am Going to get the Forged Aluminum Rims--classic style. I know the off-set of the rims make it 1. 4" further out and after looking at my stock Michelins and 16" rims, this amout of further out seems ok to me so that is settled...



What I need advice on and if anyone out there has experience on, not rumors. . the tires I need are "F" rated.



I have narrowed my choices to 2 tires and 2 sizes.



Keep in mind, I have a toyhauler and I routinley go off-road to get to the places I



I have heard the 225/70r-19. 5 is the same as the 265/75-16 Diameter wise. If that is true, I am wondering why a F rated tire is only 240# heavier rating than the E (3640 verses 3400)... ?



Most of the trucks in the customers trucks on the site has 245/70R-19. 5 tires. Is that difference like the difference of the 265 verses the 285? I have 3. 55 axle and my trailer is pretty heavy, that is why I want the higher rating and 19. 5"..... But do I need the 225 for proper axle ratio for pulling my trailer?



I am looking at the Goodyear G-124 and the Michelin XDE-MS



Goodyear is 3640# for the 225 tire and 4805# for the 245 size... . This Seems too heavy for what I want... . (the 245)



The michelin XDE is also 3640# for the 225 size but the 245 size has a weight of 4080#..... This seems like a much better weight rating that I might want.



The tread of the Michelin is not as agressive as the Goodyear but looks OK for traction in Dirt conditions... .



So is there anybody that has experience or knows anything about this tire or is it better to go with the goodyear tire? also is it better to have the 225 even if the weight rating is only slightly higher than the E rating??



Getting the tax return in a couple of weeks and I want to get these pretty quick... .

One of the factors that determines a tire's weight rating is it's ability to resist overheating. While the F tire above has a stronger and stiffer carsass than the E tire, because the F is so short it doesn't have as much material to absorb and disipate heat. Hence the only marginal gain in weight rating.
 
That makes sense... I was looking at pressure ratings and the 225 has the 3600# rating at a higher pressure like 95 or 110 psi where as the 245 has the 4080# at 85 PSI.



I have towed a smaller trailer with the 285/75-16 and the difference in the ratio for the axle wasn't too bad as I have a 6 speed but if I like get the 245 Michelins with the 4080# that might be like the 285. Also with the lower pressure, it might be a better ride overall.



Still would like more info on these tires themselves... . durability and reliablility experience.
 
I wouldn't go smaller than the 245's. They also have a higher load rating because they are wider. With the 6 speed I wouldn't be too concerned about a little extra height because you'll always have a lower gear if you need it. Also, the 225's are just so small tehy look really awkward on a 19. 5" wheel and a SRW truck. My $. 02

Did Rickson give you an idea of lead time on the rims? I ordered a set of 7. 5" powder coated steel wheels before Cristmas and I'm still trying to get a delivery date. I was just wondering if the aluminum ones are in stock or available quicker.
 
With 4,000 miles on my Michelin 245's, I've got 21/32nds left out of an original depth of 22/32nds. Assuming the wear rate stays the same for the life of the tire (they usually wear better once they wear down a ways), that puts me at 80,000miles before DOT says get new ones. That's REALLY good considering I'm really hard on tires. My factory General's only went 35k.



The 245's look (do it with me) A-W-E- - - -S-O-M-E. I went with the 245's 'cause I wanted more speed at lower rpms. Now my 4. 10's have an effective ratio of 3. 86, according to the calculator on Rickson's website. With the 3. 55's, I'd be a little leary of 245's. You WILL notice a decrease in power, empty or loaded. It just won't be as quick. If you do decide to get the 245 Mich's, make sure you get the 12ply and not the 16ply. I ASSumed mine would be 12ply, uh-uh, these 16plys are absurdly heavy.



The Mich's are great for traction, at least on snow and ice. I've never driven with a tire that will dig like these will. Biggest downfall, THEY HOWL LIKE A WOLF IN HEAT.

I have 105,000 miles on my 225/R7019. 5s (purchased from Rickson's). I opted for the 225s on my '96 because they would fit in the stock spare wheel well. They are approximately the same diameter as the stock tires.
