Friday I bought an '09 2500 Automatic. I am impressed. First automatic Dodge in 7 trucks.

I have 43,000 miles to go until I am my own warranty company. My question is: I have seen there is a EGR removeable kit available. Has anyone done this kit and what if any, were the benefits?

Congrats on your purchase!

It's quite beneficial to remove it, however it requires a tuner and you will be your own warranty company sooner than anticipated... thou honestly nearly all warranty claims are related to the emissions equipment.

In order to successfully and safely remove the EGR the ECM has to be re-programmed to not look for it or try to activate it. There are no programmers on the market that are undetectable, and the dealership won't know if you ran stock w/ deletes or a 200hp tune if something breaks... and thus warranty work would most likely not be offered.

Ah so... ... ... ... ... ... that is why I don't think I will pursue any enhancements until I break 100K... ... ... ... ... ... about a year from now.

For the moment I think I will just concentrate on things like Mag Hytec covers to help extend component life... ... ...

Start the rig up process tomorrow. I dread it. lots of stuff to install. Hitch, brake, fuel/tool box, headache rack and wind wing, grille guard, mud guards, wheels and tires (19. 5s), nerf bars, and on and on... ... ... .....

I have heard multiple times that if you unplug the EGR you can gain 2mpg and it will only throw a soft code so shouldn't affect warranty, might want to research it

It seems to be hit and miss on the EGR unplugging, but more hit than miss.

The biggest issue is that you have to live with a CEL, and will not know if there are any other issues.

Ya a CEL on all the time would drive me crazy, for 2mpg id probably live with it... ... ... ... or keep my 5. 9

I have not altered mine but have heard from a reliable source whose name we all know that deleting emissions equipment did not provide any improvement in fuel economy. I don't know what is true.

Of the 2 friends of mine that messed with an un-plugged EGR they both saw opposite resutls. One saw improved mileage (hand-calc) and better throttle response, the other saw lower mileage and a more sluggish truck. They were both G56 trucks, one was a '10 the other a '11.

Personally I would leave it 100% stock, or delete it. Despite what some people say the 09+ trucks are very reliable in stock form, as long as they don't have very short duty cycles, and they work well. The biggest thing is the soot buildup in the intake from the EGR, but that can be cleaned when you delete.

Harvey, I went from 13 town, 16 highway to 17 town, 20 highway by deleting, so it was well worth it. Will figure out the payback period on the cost of the delete kit and report back.

Not fix, but replace

Huh?????????????????

If your Exhaust Brake is sticking and wont' disengage (soot buildup), then dealer will either clean the turbo or replace it. Also if the EGR cooler may replaced with a newer model. Maybe. I'm just going by my experience, since your new to you truck is a 2009, maybe it doesnt have the sooting problems as bad as the 2008 model did.

EVIC...heh!

I read that in the OM. How accurate in the Lie-O-Meter on the 6. 7s?

My oil change alert never ever worked on the EVIC. The fuel contamination levels (10%) were awful even at 5000K. As soon as I dumped the DPF and the EGR, the oil became beautiful. Using Amsoil OE oil this go around and will test it at 6000 miles to see if it can go further than 7500.

Truck mileage is 97K

Cheers,

Ken

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I run miles. Lots of miles. Hoping that will keep the engine cleaner than sitting in stop and go traffic.

I run Stratapore filters. Truck has 57,000 miles so I only have 43,000 to go until I am out of warranty and hopefully I will have done enough research to make a semi intelligent decision concerning the left wing devices installed on the motor.

You might be alright on a straight 7500 mile OCI if you're on the road all the time. Run an oil analysis at 5000 to see whats what and establish a baseline. I can bring you a kit cause I'll be in St. Pete and Sarasota next week.
