I was wondering if it would hurt the transmission or defeat the purpose of mis-matching 2 different brands of performance transmission mods for my transmission?..... like an Art Carr converter and a DTT valve body or such? Only reason I ask this is because I want to try an Art Carr out, but they don't seem to have a performance VB. I have an ART CARR in my Ford Lightning truck and it works really well.

Also someone tell me this... . How much power can I add to the truck if I do a aftermarket TC & VB? I didn't know how much power I could add to it since I would still have the stock clutches. Would it be best to update the clutches too?

FYI, my only 2 mods are K&N drop-in & straight pipe. Bought the truck new w/ 500 miles. Heaviest load has only been 6K, tow only 30% of the time, transmission serviced at every 25K w/ 70K on the truck now.

I appreciate any help,

JD

I would Stick with the complete DTT Setup. As far as just a valve body and TC... I know of a truck that runs close to 400hp, and 800 Ftlbs on just a VB/TC Combo. That being said go to DTT website and use the forums and read up on why Bill and company don't recommend just a VB/TC

dont mix and match, just pick a company and stick with their products. there can be alot of headaches with trying to match pressures and such to make the 2 completely different designed components work together.

I gotcha guys. I figured it would be a bad idea. I appreciate the info.

On another similar subject, how would one go about measuring the fluid pressure and torque converter pressure in the transmission? I was wondering where I can tap in to check out the pressures to make sure the transmission is still holding up OK?

Thanks,

JD

I am a DTT builder/installer near Dallas. Where 'bouts in NE TX are you located. Maybe we can hook up and you can ride in my truck. PM me your # and I'll give you a call and see if I can answer your questions. Going on 30 years as a trans builder and have installed most converters out there and have been sticking with DTT for several years now. Superior fluid coupling and strong lockup. DTT addresses the entire trans, not just the converter and vb. I have done a number of trucks for members. Let me know if I can help. A trans upgrade is expensive, do it once.

Yeah, I know it is expensive. I had my Ford Lightning transmission "built" to hold the power I was making and it cost me $1,750 for the transmission and another $1000 for the converter. I do not want to go through that much money again, but it looks like it now if I want to do this 47RE.

I really want to just get the converter and VB if my transmission is in good shape, but need to check the pressures on the transmission before I make my final decision. I have a buddy who has changed out clutches in the 47RH/E many of times, but he has never done a full rebuild. I climbed under the truck yesterday to see what is all involved in the job of changing the converter and VB and it looks like a fairly easy job, easier then my Lightning. I was thinking of 3 hours total.

inarush76, if I find out that I have leaky seals, pump, etc. , then I will be coming to see you for sure and just rebuild the whole thing and be done with it. Do you offer any kind of warranty?

BTW, I live in Daingerfield, about 20 miles Southeast of Mt. Pleasant.
